What BRAND to turn to?
To each their own I suppose but for me, I've never been loyal to a "brand". I came close with my 5 years of Buell but that isn't brand loyalty. It's that Erik Buell built the perfect bikes for me. Bikes made for people who really enjoy riding. Not bikes made to sell to people. I intend to keep my current Buell until it is worn to an unrebuildable nub.
I have had around 59 bikes so far and 3 were Buells. About 12 Harleys and the rest were either what I liked best at the time or what good deal presented itself in a package I could live with and enjoy. I still have my first Harley and I always will because it speaks to me. (the bitch!)

Buell took me back to my roots. The first time I rode a Buell I was instantly back in time to when I rode the first bike that spoke to me. Bikes can do that if you let them.

It's about the ride.

Slicker, get in touch with Newfie, he has one & takes it out in the woods with his snowmobile riding friends in the winter!

as long as their are Buells available i plan on staying Buell...if the pipeline ends, i would probably go Triumph, either a Sprint St or a street triple R .

Panhead - I think we're all on (pretty much) the same page as you, with the only caveat being that Buell has been the one building bikes that speak to us the most.

I know that's my dilemma - while there's plenty of bikes out there I'd like to have, none I'd like to have instead of either of my Buells.

For me, either Ural, BMW, or Zero. Never getting rid of the Buell's though.

>>I wondered Dave, did Triumph derate the suspension parts for the smaller motor street triple versus the speed triple? <<

The Street Triple has non adjustable Kyaba Suspension stock, it's not very good compared to the the Street Triple 'R' which gets 3-way adjustable Kyabas.

I'd run the 'R' till they needed replacing. The good end Kyaba stuff works almost as well as Showa, it just doesn't last as long.

The standard Street Triple's suspenders I would replace at the time of purchase. It's a cheap enough bike to consider that as an option.

In all likelihood, it'll probably be another Buell. When I bought my Firebolt new, I was actually shopping for a tube framed bike, but there were none that I was too interested in around here, and the price was excellent on the Firebolt. No complaints on the XB; I love it and it has never, ever given me trouble of any kind. But, I've always loved the look of the Tube framed bikes, the more "standard" riding position, and probably most importantly, the fact that I could build a truly smokin' BIG inch engine for it in our own machine shop, using the vast array of parts available for the pre-XB engines, hang a carburetor off of it, and go nuts. Prime candidates would be a Cyclone or ST3, but any clean example would be up for consideration at the right price.

As far as other bikes go, +1 to Panhead dan. Buells do nail it for me, but there are other machines out there, and a lot of them are really cool. I picked up a really clean BMW R100 over the summer, and it's a great old bike. I bought it from a family friend who is a Beemer guy, who bought the bike JUST for the RT fairing and bags. When I bought it, he included a near perfect "S" type fairing (the one that is similar to the XLCR type), and the bike has had the suspension upgraded with Koni shocks out back and Progressive springs up front. It's silky smooth and comfortable, (my wife loves that part), sounds cool, is an air cooled twin, and, like my Firebolt, no one else on the block has one.

Well, After I sold my XB12S, I was looking for another bike. I really wanted another Buell but didnt want another XB. Thought about the 1125CR but couldnt get past the design (looks) of the air intakes, plus the price was more then I wanted to spend.
Then I came across the Suzuki B-King.
Now, aside from the lame name (you can always call it the 1300GSX) the bike is everything I could ask for, plus it has the look of the 1125CR in the headlight area, at least in my opinion.
What more could you ask for, a 150 plus HP, 170 plus mph naked 'Busa for about $7999.00 to $8999.00, depending on the dealer.
But heres the ONLY problem Ive found. They only imported, between 1400 and 1500 of them in 2008. While they are still selling 2009 and 2010 elsewhere, i.e. Europe, Japan, etc., the B-King , like Buell doesnt sell well here in the states. I dont know what it is about riders over here not liking naked bikes.
There are still some 2008s out there, and if your looking, you should consider checking the bike out.
I have to tell you, when I saw the video of Erik speaking about the end of Buell, my heart sank, its a great bike.
You guys on the Badweb are some of the greatest people Ive ever met online. Keep the
Buell name alive

Thanks Dave. Just one more thing Buell did right that the other manufactures don't seem to get... those of us that don't feel the need for the "big" motor (blubblubblubBlubblubBLUBBLUBBlubblub <= See South Park thread) still want the "good" suspension.

Jaimec posted..
"I'd say the best thing about riding a Multistrada is that you don't have to LOOK at it.

Unless you're at a traffic light besides a big store window, that is.

Eyes forward, Mister! Spewing on the nice pedestrian isn't right."

I think this reflection looks pretty good in a store window.

Danger_Dave; Since I know I have seen the pictures of you abusing a Triumph Scrambler.... What is your real world interpretation of how durable that bike is in an off pavement situation and ridden similar to 'adventure' riding that the ULY was meant to do. Forest service roads, rocky back woods access roads, occasional power line maintenance road. Thanks.
Off to see if you put it up on ADV rider.
