From personal experience on the road, the HD riders in this part of the world are not quite as helpful or nice as they were to Reg in his moment of dilemma. They don't acknowledge your presence
on the road, show any respect for other road users (generalising from experience again) and I have had several scare the crap out of me when I was a fledgling on the bike by passing in my lane,
so close they nearly clipped me only to scream off down the road ahead.
A lot here wear big bold gang colours and are renowned for causing a lot of trouble off the roads as well as on.

Vampress, I bet they're all immigrants from Indiana...

If memory serves, I offered to bring some of my blue ribbon winning home brew to you if I ever made it to Cali years ago. So I will have to extend the offer when I make the trip down South again.

Dayum, that beer looks good enough to eat! Cyclone, we're now several thousand miles closer to you than before. Come on down, bring some of that chewy brown stuff with you, and we'll invite Prior over, too - he's been known to drink a beer from time to time...

Speaking of:

quote:

I can help fix that...

And we're also now several thousand miles closer to YOU. Time will tell whether or not that's a good thing...

In Harleyworld I always know who the sons of bitches are up front.

Reg, there's a successful t-shirt idea in there somewhere. I bet JB2 would buy a couple...

quote:

I tend to start conversations with other riders using a statement like "that's a really cool bike you have." I've never had anyone give me anything other than a pleasant attitude.

Nice approach, Nance, not hurt at all by the fact you're a downright pleasant guy to begin with, but I bet you've never ridden in Indiana...

Reg, Are you the one who wrote the passage about the Uly shortly after if came out that goes like this; "You can lean this thing until your elbows drag!"?

I love quoting that statement to some of my fellow riders regardless what they ride.

Kindly makes you wonder why Harley Davidson ever tried to cater to the Power Ranger Crouch Rocket Crowd don't it. You want to know why Harley Davidson dropped the Buell Motor Company Product Line, WHY---Take a Look in the MIRROR!

Not to perpetuate the argument theme of this thread, Patches, but...
Who, exactly, are the 'Power Ranger Crotch Rocket Crowd," and if this is where they congregate, how do I get off the mailing list?
Thought this was a Buell Forum, and not a self-loathing one, as far as I've seen.

All of my HD shirts are weeded out ready to go to Salvation army!
One of the reasons I ride the Buells I know they are a good product, I don't have to fit in with the HD crowd, Buells are one of a kind motorcycle. It's like you are riding GOOFYFOOT on the skateboard, when everybody else rides the other way! I'll ride with anybody who rides responsibly and wears gear.

Reg, that was you leaned over at the gas station. I just looked and turned the other way...

Just kidding, hilarious story.

The rest of you, come on, don't let a squid who comes from the auto industry making tough, and bad board room decisions put barriers between two wheelers no matter what they ride. Harley pumped a lot of money into Buell, funded XB designs and Loki designs, and most of my Buell sales until October '09 went to Harley owners.

If Buell riders start dissing Harley riders, riders who likely do not know how deeply many of us are taking this latest development, we are only ruining a kindred brotherhood & sisterhood that is to our benefit to maintain not tear down. Harley owners were not consulted by Wandell for making his decision.

Harley dealers, like all of them or not, sold nearly all of the Buells most of you ride. Those dealers are focused on the lions share of their revenue, some were also forward thinking enough to learn about a great product and embraced Buell and did well with the brand. Why not be thankful for that?

In my riding experiences I have met thousands of riders riding every available brand of motorcycle.
And in these experiences, I can only really recall maybe a handful that were unpleasant.
And of these the only common thread was that the assholes were human beings.

I would bet money that these folks would be assholes even if you met them at the dog park.

Hey this has been fun and enlightening so here goes with another HD joke... (cause this is supposed to be fun people!)

Q; How are a Harley and an International pickup truck alike?

A; They're both too fast for the field and too slow for the road.

Reg I want one of those shirts Ferris mentioned! : )

Outlawed in Indiana, JB2

Sam here. I've only encountered two people that I can think of that were unpleasant in the motorcycle world. Both happened to be on Harleys, but being that at the time I rode one, those were the folks I talked to most often.

Sometimes I see an HD rider in full costume and laugh.
Sometimes I see a BMW rider wearing a fluorescent light bulb for a riding suit and chuckle.
Sometimes I see a sportbike rider in a leather race suit with virgin kneepucks and I giggle.

But then again, sometimes I wear full leathers or a one-peice textile suit when I'm riding, and some people must have a pretty good laugh at my expense as well.

It's a big round table.

Jokes are funny, and nothing more.

I'm not a Harley guy. I used to own one and kind of outgrew it for the type of riding I enjoy at this point. I may own one again someday (I still have a '64 XLCH, though it's for sale to pay for the S3T), but I'll buy it because it's the best bike out there for the job I'd want it to do (and Harley's ARE the best tool for the job in many cases).

Anyways, carry on. And I'll make sure I stay out of Indiana, lol.

>>>>"In Harleyworld I always know who the sons of bitches are up front. In the corporate world, I never found out until it was too late"

That's an accurate statement . . . a REAL accurate statement.

I confess that of all the Harley-Davidson's I've ridden the only one that calls me today (muted only by the $25,000 price of entry) is the FLH. I had a 1988 that I rode cross country with Mr. Teerlink to the 85th Anniversary and each and every day was a holiday on the road.

Each time I see you guys with your cruisers I get a bit more of the bug . . .
