great read. got to meet reg back in i think daytona bike week 02 or 03 when i went over there just to do battletrax and meet erik for the first time. during that day i was there with buellistic, had the pleasure of meeting pammy, aaron wilson and his wife and even got to have lunch with erik and aaron. and if i remember right, i think aaron won that day even after dropping his bike twice. that was one of my most memorable days of my life. |

Reg is the sh*t. I first met him at Alice's when I was interviewing for a position w/a Bay Area BMW dealer...I was on the brand new (at the time) Triumph speed triple and Reg had some great commentary on the model. Have thought the world of him ever since. I once jokingly referred to him as a hack writer, something that I never felt right about, since. He laughed it off easily enough, being the pro he is. Any man who both writes and rides as well Reg does is, unquestionably, the sh*t. |

I'm also not much of a fan of writing that employs words that I have to look up in the dictionary to understand, words like "inexorable" and "curriculum vitae". Mostly I flat out reject the commentary's main point, that "we've probably lost yet another of our most valuable assets; the entrepreneur that is Erik Buell." BALONEY! The author claims to be acquainted with Erik Buell. Not so much. |

I liked the article. He said some stirring things and used a lot of flowery words. Such things should be welcomed under current circumstance. It would be a fitting tribute, if such a thing was required. But...We, being the true Buell enthusiasts, know that a real tribute is only needed at the end. ..and we are far from it! |

The author claims to be acquainted with Erik Buell. Not so much. Aren't you aquainted with Erik??? Aren't I also like others that have met him a few times?? I think Reg has done alot as well for the Buell community. Like Battletwin mag. .... boy I missed that mag. Also battle trax which was always a hit. I think those things brought him some what closer Erik in some sorts. |

I'm not sure I understand the problem with Reg's beautifully-crafted piece. I certainly like both Reg & Blake, and respect each of them highly. I've met only Reg though. Maybe if the identical piece were signed by a different author it would have met with a different response? We're all only human, and I like to think that we're all doing our best in this life. I thought is was an excellent article. This part rings most true. "It would be easy to say that Erik Buell failed. That the closing of his company somehow invalidates him. When, in fact, he succeeded more than most of us ever will. Erik Buell wanted to build his motorcycle. And he did. He did it by sheer force of talent and will. There are tens of thousands of Erik's motorcycles on the road, each a testament to his passion, his creativity, and his perseverance. And each of those motorcycles reflects a singular personality unlike any other production motorcycle in the world. It's tough times in East Troy, Wisconsin, right now, and words won't put a paycheck in anyone's hands. But those suffering through this need to know that they were part of something quite special. Something that no committee nor boardroom could accomplish. Something that is happening less and less frequently; the realization of a man's dream." I don't like the comment about some of the bike should have never seen the light of day, but otherwise its a balanced article. Certainly not a suck-up piece, but Reg isn't really a suck-up kind of guy I don't mind big words, tho c.v. is usually a lawyer or medical professional thing. |

I know Erik and Reg both. I've been with both of them at the famed barn and on several occasions at the factory. They always found time to have an intense conversation. I think they know each other pretty well. Great piece BTW Just my .02 (Message edited by jb2 on October 23, 2009) |

That was a great piece. It stated what we all know to be true about Erik Buell and our motorcycles and what can never be measured or quantified on a piece of paper or in a boardroom. |
