I sit here saddened my this recent news of H-D nixing Buell and cannot figure out what to do. My future was planned based on Buell. I wanted so much to be a Buell mechanic. I cannot think of any other motorcycle I want or want to be a part of. I have been thinking all day what am I going to do with my life now. I mean I still want to be a motorcycle mechanic but I do not even begin to know what kind of bikes I want to work on now. It is either become a harley mechanic and work on slow overweight bikes full of chrome, work on un-enteresting jap bikes, or work on italian bikes in which i will probably have to drive long distances to work.

As for as personal bikes I am sure I can own a Buell for quite some time but I will never have anything to look forward to when it comes to new bikes with new technology like I would have like to be able to do.

There has to be something that can be done to res erect the buell brand from this crap Harley has done.

For right now I think your safest bet would be to focus on another bike brand that uses a Rotax motor, or some other kind of advanced Vtwin.

Hey, Donald, I know it sucks to have the focus of your passion derailed by events you cannot control. Been there. But reading your post, it's impossible to overlook that passion you hold, and THAT is yours to re-focus, so go for it, man! Find a good school/tech institute and learn as much as you can about every motorcycle out there. You'll find that there is incredible richness and diversity in the field, and beauty and elegance of design and execution from any manufacturer. Erik Buell himself has owned and raced a wide variety of machines; Yamaha TZ750's, water cooled Suzuki 2 stroke triples, Ducatis, step through Hondas, even Harley Davidsons, and I'd bet my Vanson Buell jacket that he worked on every one of them, and every one of them added to the experience and wisdom to base the next idea or innovation on.

There is another way of looking at your situation as well. If you have had the passion for motorcycles fuelled by your Firebolt, and you use what you see and love about that machine to establish a baseline for the continuation of your own education, and the standard you will hold yourself to, then, by God, in a few years, YOUR skills and reputation will be in demand. At that point, whether YOU are the cat that can sort out a fuel mapping problem on a K series BMW, or dial in the suspension flawlessly on whatever the newest, fastest GSXR is, your shop, your employer, and your customers will know it, and you will live a better life for it. And you never know, you might just end up working the American sport bikes of the future.....or building them. Just remember, life, like that Firebolt, will go where your vision guides it
