My wife understood my passion for my motorcycles when she said "Victory Motorcycles company should buy Buell MCo."

It would help keep it an American owned company.

What do you think?

I agree... Polaris I think would be a great company and would help diversify their product line even further. Can you imagine Buell being sold alongside snowmobiles, ATVs, and cruisers?

How you going to start? I would imagine h-d owns all the tooling a dies for all the parts that make up a Buell. To start over, they would have to buy the factory and everything in it..ain't going to happen. Harley will probably crush the stuff they can't utilize at a h-d plant..... for scrap iron. And that's a damned shame.

Buells, as best I can tell, were assembled at East Troy. The parts come from suppliers all over the world. Those suppliers are still in business.

I'm pretty sure that the MoCo has key patents that they will not give up for any dollar amount. Same with the Buell company intellectual property. They didn't put it up for sale, they killed it. They will probably sit on those patents like a big fat toad.

Yep- and why would Polaris desire to start a sportbike division when that's proven to be a lukewarm-at-best growth sector?

You do realize that Polaris is hurting too, right?
No mc company is feeling the kind of fiscal excess that would obviate the purchase of a faltered, albeit niche-appreciated, marque.

HD is going to absorb Buell. Not sell it anyways.

Yep- melding the engineering into the future Sportster lineup...HD is aware that no company has the cash or the risk wish to make an offer, anyway.
Right now, they're (HD) likely thinking about consolidating the parts and tech, as they would with any debt.

Could be a win-win,years from now, if you examine the options carefully

At least Polaris appears to be a well managed company.

+ 1 Tramp on Polaris hurting, my local Vic dealer still has '08s he can't get rid of.

He has pushed them since '99, now he would just as soon dump the brand along with the Polaris ATV's.

I have a hard time believing that the MoCo wouldn't sell the patents that they didn't think they needed if they could get money for them.

Do you really see a Sportster in the future with ZTL brakes, underslung exhaust, a Rotax motor, oil in the swingarm, or fuel in the frame?

I doubt it.

They will not sell for simple reason to open it to there network. HD is going to make just like it went away.

If there is any future Buell motorcycle company, am I the only one that thinks it would be best if it was owned/financed by a company completely outside of the motorcycle industry? One that trusted Erik and left him alone to do his thing.

Nik you are not alone. I was thinkin penske or just let the owners buy into Buell. Id invest a couple thousand into Buell if I knew it could be sold out of a harley dealership. Im sure Im not alone.

h-d is a protectionists company.IMO,they are not going to give away or sell anything "Buell". The Buells as we know them are done. There will be no more, period. If Erik "could" even break away,he would have to start all over with something that isn't even close to the previous models....or h-d will go after him like stink on shit. Hang on to your Buells and keep them well...there will be no more.Like I said before,h-d will crush for scrap iron anything of Buell that isn't usable to them in the future.

A new "Tuber style" with the Rotax could be a good starting point......./

Poor idea.

Simple and right there on the table so it seems intuitive but going from one poor dealer network to another is unwise.

I think Bombardier would fit well.
They need a Motorcycle line (two wheeled)

i personally would prefer to see Erik go his own way and continue to prove everyone wrong (especially H-D).

BTW, i am a sales manager for an american car dealership and would love to open up a motorcycle dealership for what i think would be a worthwhile company to be part of...

on an optimistic note...

anytime a red light happens anywhere, a green light comes on in a different direction...and you can also make a right turn as well

i think Erik has made several "right turns" or gone in different directions in the past when a red light came out of nowhere and i can't wait to see the road he heads down as he accelerates away from this one.
