IMO that depends on how long you plan on owning it, how many miles you plan on putting on it, and what you forsee happening to the Buell technology, patents, trademarks, etc.

I just purchased my first XB this morning (09 XT) so I'm just starting to learn about the XB lineup.. but I assume that at least a few of the engine parts are compatible with the HD sportster line. If I'm correct in that assumption, then you've got at least some guaranteed parts availability even after the 7 year required Buell support ends for HD.

On the other hand, if Buell is purchased by another company any time soon, then I would wager that the rotax line alone will be what carries Buell into the future. (the XB engines and technology may not be made available to the next potential company to own Buell, due to sharing design features with the HD sportster line) Owning a Rotax powered bike might be the best bet.

At this point, with what we know it seems like a gamble either way. I gambled towards the air cooled motor. But then again I'd be dead in a week if I was riding a CR : D
