I was just informed by the Parts guy at Nassau County Harley Davidson that they've dropped the Buell line! Now, if I don't want to pay at least one bridge toll to get it serviced I either have to go out to East Jesus, NY (Riverhead) or Long Island City (and fight the traffic from Hell).

Other options are New Roc, Danbury, and Liberty (which means TWO bridge/tunnel crossings with their required tolls).

This SUCKS!! And I have neither the time, the talent, or the tools to do my own work either.

Can they no longer service your Buell if they don't sell them? Do they loose access to Buell technology? Did they throw out their Buell techs?

Just wondering if by dropping sales, would the whole package go away?

They have to Vern, it's all or nothing. I had a dealer around me drop the line while I had parts on order a few years ago. The order was canned and I was refunded.

I guess Buell figures If you can't or don't want to sell 'em, you shouldn't make money on parts or service.

I didn't know that. I thought they might be able to retain and or help their customers by being able to at least change their oil or do a scheduled service.

Dealer contracts wont even let them wash the bike.

I recently picked up a box of junk on ebay from a dealer that dropped Buell. Lots of good spare parts that I might need one day. : )

Find a good independent shop, shouldn't be too hard in your area.

Yet they can wash and work on any bike they take in on trade. So just arrange to sell them the bike for the term of the service then they can sell it back to you. Make the sales price $1. LOL! : )

Privately contact those who work in the shop and 'know' your bike.
Many a motorcycle mechanic who does side-jobs at home in moonlight and weekends.

my buddy has a friend who's the service writer for the lakeland hd shop. who just happens to live down the road from him so any time something would happen, he would give him a heads up and the guy would bring the trailer home and pick his bike up for him. take it in then bring it back when it's done. find out if any of the other dealers has someone that lives in your area or find out if the buell techs that were/are at your dealer does the sidework. what the shop don't know, doesn't hurt the mechanic.

I would stay away from riverhead. Unless your into wasting you time and money.

If I was in your situation, I would be going to new roc. The owner jack, is into buells. In all my dealings with him, he has been honest and up front with me. YMMV

I wish they would at least charge less than $11.00 on the SI-bound Verrazano. That would make it less painful for you to get to Rahway.
On the other hand, for the price of any of the tolls you are looking at, if the service is on the ball and does things right for you, you will save much more in time and hassle factor - probably less hourly charges pissed away as well.

WTF???? When I worked in the Ford Garage,we worked on ANYTHING....cars,trucks,big rigs,Tera-Gators,farm tractors,snowmobiles,boats and motorcycles. We even did GM warranty work for displaced Chevy owners. Harley/Buell must have a truly f'uped set of franchise rules.

If it's anything like what is going on around me, it's a bunch of newbie kids who haven't worked on squat! Take it from me. I know nothing about bikes, but I have a service manual, I can read and I have the proper tools. So, anything other than terminal failure, I can fix it myself. You may have to spend some cash up front to get the proper tools to do the job correctly up front, but it is well worth it. Trust me....

I think the problem would be in ordering parts. The tech is still there but working on Harleys (as he does most of the time).

I found out today when I called to find out about getting a NYS Inspection. They've sold so few Buells that when I told him I had an 1125R, he knew right away who I was (apparently they've only sold two??).

I guess with sales numbers like that it explains why they've dropped the brand but this SUCKS. Yes, I know Jack at NewRoc, and he's bailed me out once before when I needed emergency work done but it's just so damned inconvenient getting the bike up there, getting a ride home... and then getting a ride back when it's time to pick it back up again.

Long Island City MIGHT be near a train station... that might turn out to be my most viable option for now. :-(

My nearest Buell dealer is 90 minutes away and it takes some searching to find the bikes in their store, let alone any merchandise. In the process of rebuilding an X1 last winter I needed their assistance/parts let's see.. never.

There are a handful of quality dealers scattered all over the country (some of them sponsors here) that will be more than happy to send you some parts via a little brown truck.

As for service, spend a couple hundred bucks on a decent set of tools and a service manual. It's a lot cheaper and satisfying in the long run.

Don't let my local HD-only dealer in on that little secret. They checked the compression on my X1 for me a couple months ago, and they've never carried Buell.

Maybe Buell will start selling us their parts on-line unless Court gets his mobile dealership rolling.

I can see that the sponsors will be getting a lot more of my time money for parts now. (Although I really haven't had to get parts for a while now.)
