Shoei just came out with the RF1100 and the X12!

Which means the RF1000 and the X11's will be dropping in price (going on sale) soon. Ive noticed some online places already doing the sales, but the "new" versions arent really out yet, so once they come out I think the "old" versions will drop a good bit more.

Ive had my RF1000 for about 4 years now and love it.
But think i'll snag an X11 if its on good enough of a sale.
Found some X11's for 350 right now.....

Nexx X30. Modular, has a chinbar, and internal flip down sunvisor. Tends to be a little noisy over normal highway speeds, and I feel it could use more padding inside. Oh, and it will get you on the front page of Killboy!

Scorpion EXO-400, EXO-700, or EXO-1000.

Best bang for the buck.

Safe, low price, as quiet as my Arai.

You could buy one and use the other $200 for luggage or other gear.

I have a Shoei RF-1000, best helmet I have ever owned. Highly recommend it. Of course now, I wouldn't mind having an RF-1100. : )

If money is no object, I like the Arai Corsair RX7. I just ordered a new Suomy 1R Extreme. No opinion on it yet.

The Scorpion AXO 700 is a good helmet. I had one and liked it before stepping up to Arai

Helmet harbor dot com has great review vids, really tell it like it is. Never bought anything from them except a replacement shield, but the vids are a great resource.

First, a $1000 helmet that didn't fit your noggin properly is worse than a $100 helmet that fits perfectly. You have to make sure the brand you go with fits your head properly.

Normally, a helmet that flows a ton of air isn't gonna be as quiet as Lexus inside. Airflow makes some noise, so that's a bit of a compromise. I've also read that a helmet that doesn't fit right can be a bit louder because the air can swirl around between your head and the liner. I guess this would be more of an issue if you stuffed an oval skull into a helmet for a round one.

Personally, i'm not a fan of modular helmets. I just don't see how the chin bar can be as strong as a traditional full face helmet, those hinges have to be a weak point. If you didn't know, the chin area is the most common impact area in a crash for a helmet. Also, I'd think they're louder inside than a similarly equiped traditional full face.

I've had a Shark RSX Flag for about two years now. Flows good air, pretty quiet (I wear earplugs anyway) and they have an extra thick face shield, F1 spec 3mm.

You MUST try on the helmet.

Some of us are fit better by different makes.

My noggin fits Arai and Suomy... not so well in Shoei.

I run Arai Corsair but that's a choice based on racing and the fact that I landed UNDER the bike that slammed the sidecase down on top of the helmet, driving my face into the mud.

Arai. My head doesn't fit well in a Shoei.

Disclaimer "Your head may vary".

I've had nothing but Arai's since '93.

I just got a RF1000 there are some good deals in the $300 price range. I love this helmet better than anything I have ever had on my head. The thing vents so well you can feel the wind blowing across your head. Might not be the quietest. Looks great, dot and snell . 5 year warranty.

I have the 299 shoei from cycle gear I really like it. The scorpions were nice, I really liked the Shark but it just didn't fit my head as well. From what I gather they are all safe, so it boils down to options and fit. Just my inexperienced 2 cents.

Read the article I linked above about helmet and head shapes. It used to be you had an "Aria shaped head" or a "Shoei shaped head", but now Aria makes helmets with different shapes too, so you can't make that blanket statement. Other helmet brands tend to have a range of shapes too. Figure out what shape and size your head is, figure out what helmets will work for that shape, then try those helmets and buy the one that fits your head, your tastes, and your budget.

While I love my Shoei RF-1000, it fits me perfectly, is very light and accommodates glasses, it does have one serious problem.

The face shield fogs up really bad when it's cold out. The front vent doesn't seem to do anything to keep it clear.

There is a pin-lock shield with an anti-fog insert available but the viewing area is quite small.

My dream helmet is a Shoei with Scorpion's anti-fogging shields and a Nolan ratcheting neck strap.
I probably have better odds of winning the Lotto before I see such a helmet as that : )
