I'm asking for my parents that winter in Florida. They are looking at a Sling Box Solo that will send a video signal from Pennsylvania via the internet to any computer that has their receiver code. The cable hook up and wiring to a router on the PA end is doable, no problem. They have a wireless laptop to receive the signal on the FLA end.

The Sling Box Solo has a 3.2 rating (of 5) on BestBuy, which is OK, but not as high as I'd like it.

Their question is, is there something else "out there" that they can watch a Pittsburgh Steeler game in Florida? They have cable in FLA, but will get Tampa Bay Buc's football instead of the "Stillers".

Any thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Also look at Hava products. Same functionality, sometimes better pricing, e.g. $65 for a refurb'd Hava Platinum HD.

Short of getting an NFL package on their cable/satellite/FiOS video in FL, using a slingbox is probably the best bet.

I've used a couple of different products, including the Hava. Bottom line: all others are chasing the SlingBox. The software and simplicity is hard to beat.

Any of them will require a great internet connection at both ends. If it's spotty, or even as slow as a DSL connection, I wouldn't bother.

toona, i don't think they have to worry about being able to see a pittsburgh game down here. theres a "lot" of transplants down here and easy to find a bar to watch the game. any day or anytime. and besides, don't even remember the last time they overlapped. where do your parents live down here.

My son bought a slingbox and hooked it up to our television cable and router before he went to Japan a couple of years ago. Worked great! He was able to catch all the Gator games.

I, also, bought the slingplayer program for my Samsung Blackjack. Works great when killing time waiting for my number to be called at the DMV or someplace.

I got a Hava, and it effing rocks, and was less than half the cost of a slingbox.

I have 2 of the original slingboxes. They work great for what you are wanting to do.

When I was in California I wanted to do the same and was going to have my family in PA hook one up so I could get Steeler games but both were in rural areas with no high speed internet access.

Now that I have moved back to PA I have everything hooked up so my son who is stationed in California can catch the Steeler games.
