Owned my own auto repair shop for 25 years, economy tanked, business tanked, closed business. Had a part-time gig teaching Rider's Edge classes and state classes. Got picked up as a contractor to the USMC teaching 3 different motorcycle classes and 2 defensive driving classes. Life is good, hope it lasts 4 more years.

I love what I do. I think we have another 6 quarters of this. There were 550,000 more folks out of jobs last month. Nothing the new administration has done has had any impact, yet they have kindergarten kids in New Jersey singing about the "accomplishments of Barack Hussein Obama".

It's a crap shoot at present if the economy improves or goes to the tank.

Failure to deal with Afghanistan and Iran are far more important than health care. Israel commences an attack on Iraq, all bets are off, it'l be 5-7 years of world chaos and a new order.

You need to get a handle on your psychotic hatred of Barack Obama. It's not healthy. That kind of hatred will eat you up and leave you empty and hollow. Obama has been president for just over eight months. He is guaranteed to be the president for another 3+ years. Look at my criticism of Bush here on BadWeb. I didn't get serious about it until 2004, near the end of the first Bush term. I gave Bush a chance for a few years at least. You've got to pace yourself or you're going to be in serious trouble mentally and emotionally.

Where do you get your facts? There were 216,000 jobs lost in August, the fewest since August 2008. The September jobs report won't be out until Friday. Where did you get the 550,000 figure? You've done work with the Labor Department in the past and one of your buddies gave you the September report early and you'll tell us all a story about it sometime. Am I right? You're full of BS! You rely almost exclusively on BS. You're a salesman, you're a bullshitter. I can spot guys like you a mile away. Triple-check your data, facts and figures. If you don't, I will eat you alive, because I always triple-check! I don't do bullshit. I'm not interested in stories that you have no intention of ever telling.

Oh, by the way, I like what I do. I like going to work. I like my job. I deal every day with data, facts and figures. No bullshit!

I plan to stay where I work. I have been pretty fortunate to have a boss who knows what he has and is not willing to risk losing me. I am paid pretty well for what I do and I would say I enjoy it for the most part.

Love my job. Love my bosses. The company, however, is taking advantage of the economy to set back employee wages two or three years. On the other hand, it's a newspaper, so I guess I should just be happy I'm still working and still in business.

I have no idea what the future will bring. Trying to get into the government. I think that's the next growth industry.

I entered school ready to finish at a time when all the baby boomer engineers were set to retire. It was supposed to be a great job market, especially with all the defense industry in San Diego. Oops...

I'm fortunate to have been able to find a job in the first place; most of my peers were not. But I don't particularly like it, and I'm only making slightly more than I was as an intern a couple years ago (which was damn good for an intern, but not what I was told to expect with my degree, grades and experience.) The moral is low in my group, I'm doing more accounting than engineering, and every day I feel like I die a little bit more inside. So I'm just saving up until I have enough to jump ship and go off on my own or back to school.

When things get better, and employers start employing, will you will, or will you won't, keep your present job?
I wouldn't mind a change sometime in the future, maybe to something music or motorcycle related.

Do you feel your employer is taking advantage of you, knowing no one is hiring?
No, they're doing their best to look after us and keep us informed. Most staff agreed to a salary freeze at the beginning of the year. Staff are being asked to use up annual leave where possible and the company is being as flexible as possible.
It has been quiet for a while, but it looks like things may slowly be picking up here.

Are you happy where you work, are you happy with what you do?
I like the company I work for now, great people and flexible hours, but I don't *love* what I do (commercial air conditioning). My employer is however supportive of the things I do love to do outside of work (music, bikes, cars) and that is pretty rare. Music stuff is making progress and that makes up for work being "just a job".

..will you...keep your present job?

It's hard to quit after signing an enlistment contract! I wouldn't quit anyway. I'll actually be reenlisting soon. Not for too long though. I'm planning on a short reenlistment contract since bonuses for my job rating are zero right now. Maybe in another 2-3 years I can reenlist again with a bonus >fingers crossed<

Do you feel your employer is taking advantage of you, knowing no one is hiring?

Not at all. After the recruiting boom immediately following 9/11, retention has started to decline and the Navy is doing everything they can to convince current members to stay. Probably has something to do with the fact that it's cheaper to keep me happy than to train my replacement..

Are you happy where you work, are you happy with what you do?

Eh, I wouldn't say happy, but I am content with my job. Avionics have never been a passion for me, but I do enjoy the challenge that this type of work offers.

All in all I'm right where I want to be career wise. Not many other twenty-two year olds without a college education have job security, guaranteed advancement opportunities, and an amazing retirement package to look forward to.

That man is Travis Tritt..if you haven't heard him before...look it up...definately worth a listen.

The company, however, is taking advantage of the economy to set back employee wages two or three years.

And to think, just a few short years ago, companies were routinely stealing each other's employees with 40% raises and signing bonuses. It's all about survival, I guess.

Hang in there, Nik. These things tend to run in cycles.

Excuse me but if such is the case why are you sticking your beak in? As you say Court's a big boy, so why do feel you have to leap to his defence, do think him incapable of doing it himself?

I have to confess I too at times get tired of the "I know something you don't know" style of how Court presents things. However I've managed to restrain myself from letting it boil over, not always easily I might add.

As for the "Facts" as Benjamin Disraeli, one of Britain's greatest Prime Ministers once said,
"There are three kinds of lies; Lies, Damned lies, and Statistics"

So lets all chill out a bit & try to be as gentlemanly & unpatronising about this as possible please.

I get sick of all the political bullshit too, it's unneccessary & it's driving people away from this place.
Badweb used to be my 1st port of call on the internet, I've made some really good friends through this site & most of them don't come here any more.
I myself spend much less time here now than I used to, & frequent other forums instead.
It's not hard to work out why this is happening either, I'm saddened by it but it's not in my gift to turn the clock back, or control peoples opinions & freedom to say what they like, nor would I want it to be.

Some people on here need to open their minds & grow up a bit, but they probably won't because they'll not be able to accept that they should do so.

If I've stirred some of you to introspection , well good. I hope you're comfortable with what you see. To those that I haven't, well it makes no difference does it?

As I was taught when an apprentice "Any engineer will tell you, NOTHING works without tolerance"

And now in the words of the late great Dave Allen.
"Goodnight, & may your god go with you."

Reindog, where do you get off?

Yes I am upset, however I have no need to go chill. I have given my opinion in a measured way, & insulted no-one.

I resent being pigeonholed with others, I have my own opinions & am quite capable of presenting them lucidly.

However I must thank you for confirming my views for all to see.

I'm gone.

Come on people, lets pick our battles here please. I did not read this thread to see where what happened, but there are very few people here that I would not consider good people. Maybe a bit passionate about things, but not bad. I don't think Reindog was trying to disrespect, just trying to calm the heat that seems to appeared.

There are to many things in life to be upset about, please don't let a internet board be one of them.

Just trying to make a peace here, let me know if I should butt out and piss off.

MOVE ALONG, MOVE ALONG! NOTHING TO SEE HERE!

There's BS and then there's propaganda. We know in which realm M2me revels. He'll defend the left wingers no matter what, even the ACORN scumbags. People like that have no standing to criticize anyone.

It's amazing the lies that some are able to convince themselves are actually truth. I have zero respect for his ilk. He's here for one purpose only, to post his liberal stream of pablum. Go away John. This is first and foremost a Buell motorcycle enthusiasts' forum. If you are not interested in participating in the motorcycle related threads, you don't belong here.

I'd like to resume the discourse, positively, if I may...

I was one of the first-hires at my former workplace- Smoky Mountain HD/BUELL- about 5 years ago. Since then we've all had varying results, on the average, a decline. Fewer and fewer folks with a bankroll/credit to pony up and motor off.

I personally found that I'm better selling pork chops than choppers- had always been in the restaurant business prior to working with Scott et al at a great m/c dealership. 6 months into back into it as a server, just been moved into a management role. Life's good, but expect a LOT of hard work ahead.

Wish I could make it to Suches this weekend, but hey.

There! Who else had or expects a good day ahead?
