Well I just started my new job as the In School Suspension instructor at a local high school. One of my jobs is to look to look at the tardy list from the previous days and make note of when one student accums 3 tardy's. This early in the year it is not a problem, but later, I'll end up looking at hundreds of sheets comparing names.
Is there a program that I can enter the names as I receive them and it will tell me how many times that name is listed and give the dates if I choose to pull that info up?
Thanks for any advice

You can make something from MS Access or Excel. Really, any simple database should fit your needs. The hard/labor intensive part will be the initial setup, after that, it's just putting the info in there.

What is your school's attendance program? We have PowerSchool and you can print attendance reports and rosters using all sorts of filters.

Tried the Excel, but I still end up with a bunch of names repeated over, unless there is something I don't know.

Just contacted PowerSchool and asked them the same question, thanks for that info.

Excel bro, you can get rid of duplicates in excel. And if that doesn't work make a database in Access. Tons of tutorials out there on both programs.

Yea it shouldn't be hard at all. Make the first sort alphabetically with "lastname, firstname MI". Add other columns for anything else you need like student id number, which principal they have, etc. Then use the next column to mark the day, period, class missed. Next column for the next missed class, and so on.

You can do it a couple of different ways, you don't need duplicate names. You do a vlookup in Excel or there is another way in Excel as well.

If your district is on PowerSchool, I think you need to log in on an admin account. Then go to the reports tab and click class attendance audit. It will ask what students, and then you should be able to select the students you want.

Were on the program NCWise not PowerSchool.

I guess what I explained may have been a bit misleading. I want to be able to enter the names and the program pop up and say something like " This student already entered on lines 15, 87,....etc" I have no problem with entering the names and having them listed two or three times. As it stands I am getting 20-30 names a day. this being Wed. I now have 87 names to compare and see who all is a repeat tardy. Then I have to compare these 87 to last weeks 133 names. Now project out two months and you see what I'm looking at, 1000's!

We have 619 students in the student body. The unknown is how many Tardy names you will get on a day to day basis.

Jim - this is pretty basic, but you can enter names and then sort...just make sure you grab all columns when you sort.

application/vnd.ms-excel
\FILESERV1\USERDATA\Police\Kristins\My Documents\Kristi\Rainey.xls (16.9 k)

Thats what I'm using now using the find and replace method but it still leaves me having to search through every day to actually see how many entries one single person has.
