RIP Mr. Williams. +1 I wear ATGATT some of the time.  When you're talking about a significant impact injury, your pretty much toast no matter what you wear (helmet excepted). On the other hand, it's nice to come home with all you skin I guess. | ||

I missed the point also. Is it that the drunk a--hole with no gear on survived, while the geared up motorcyclist died? What would have happened to the drunk had he impacted a tree? | ||

When you're talking about a significant impact injury, your pretty much toast no matter what you wear (helmet excepted). Thank Bosh, that was the point I was making, this was one of the best, safest riders I've ever met, and in the end we still lost him over something senseless. His helmet was completely unscratched too. His aorta was crushed when he hit the tree. Maybe we should add chest protectors to the gear we wear. And who can make good chest protectors for women? Will Victoria's secret add a motorcycle line?  Sorry I worded it that way slaughter, it was a carry over from another post where we were talking about wearing gear and when it might not help; it would have made more sense if you'd seen the other posts. ATGATT just didn't work in this situation. I still always wear it, and so did Don. | ||

our condolences to his family and friends mindi. spent 6 months up in chattanooga working and had been down to nightfall a few times thanks to rotzaruk. in general, it's a great place to live around but you always have that small percentage that can really screw things up. it won't change my mind about moving up that way the first chance i get. | ||

Sorry to read this and sorrier still for Mr William and his family. Nothing can or will protect you 100% of the time nor offer 100% protection all you can try is to do your best, choice the gear you feel safe with and try to be ready for what comes your way. Major GEE forces can not be over come by the gear we have at this time I don't think...maybe one day. BUT when someone is out to get killed and grabs your bike because they don't care about themselves or anyone else it's in God hands. | ||

Nothing is 100%, we're all gonna die. That being said, I proved to myself what ATGATT can do for you. 40-45 mph, rode home, not a scratch on me, just a pulled muscle in my chest. A tee shirt and jeans wouldn't have had the same result. | ||

its the difference between safe and smart safe is staying home smart is saddling up with your gear on I had a friend die on the highway because he only wore a t-shirt and jeans, a jacket can save your life. my heart goes out to his family that is a tragic loss | ||

RIP. ATGATT helps in a slide, or a bounce, or a roll. Incidents like this one, or like mine last year (fence made out of telephone poles), involve the immovable object. I got lucky, only shattered both legs and crushed a bunch of stuff above the waist...but physics is physics. Do I still gear up, knowing what happened to me last year "despite" the gear? You bet. Do I hope they fry the drunk? Absolutely. If you're gonna be stupid to yourself, go for it. If you do something that can hurt someone else for no reason...we need to get 'eye for an eye' back into practice. My thoughts go out to the Williams family. | ||

I'm a when it's time to go it's time to go kind of guy. Do I think atgatt will save my life no matter what? No. Do I think it's intended to minimize injuries? Yep, and that's what it does. The only drop of blood I lost last Sunday when I had my 40-45 mph low side was that morning when I cut myself shaving. I hate abrasion type wounds, hate using peroxide and such. Atgatt meant that I didn't have to use peroxide on road rash, good enough for me. | ||

The worse part is the !@#$ kid that wanted so badly at the time to end his life that he didn't care if he endangered anyone else. That's pretty much intent to kill in my book. He needs to be scraped off the skin of the earth pronto. My condolences to Mr. William's family & friends. This is one of those things that NEVER should have happened in the first place. | ||

A couple of years back there was another female MC safety instructor who was killed while riding AGATT she was 43 and crested a blind hill and into a dump truck that was in the road. She died of internal injuries. In Maryland they started to question if head injuries were the #1 injury since the traffic mix had increased with larger trucks and SUVs more body trama injuries were happening. This was about 2005 or so. We get all of the traffic crash statistics at our yearly instructor updates. Anybody who rides AGATT "Leads by Example" and should keep it up!
