Israel Prime Minister Netanyahu's Secret Trip I'm afraid things are going to get even more "exciting" in the middle east fairly soon. In the last few months of 2008, the Israeli government asked the US State Department for permission to execute air strikes in Iran for the purpose of destroying nuclear development sites. The State Department denied Israel that permission. The request didn't come in an attempt to obtain permission from the US but rather to provide plausible deniability to the US for unilateral Israeli actions. This trip, if in fact to Russia to request that they NOT sell anti-aircraft weapons systems to Iran, could mean that an attack by Israel on Iran is imminent. Add to that the fact that Iran has reaffirmed their refusal to place their nuclear program on the negotiating table, and I think we may be seeing an open conflict between Israel and Iran very soon. | ||
