I ain't givin' the book away, but as a fellow BadWeBer, Ferris, I will send you the CD. At this stage it might be good for you to understand that you don't have to know shit to make music. |

That coconut song, I've found two: one involving a monkey in a tree; another involving lime in a coconut. Just curious which it is that you're talking about. |

"At this stage it might be good for you to understand that you don't have to know shit to make music." Or even 27 years later, as the case may be (my case). I can still remember looking at the barre chords in my Mel Bay Way beginner book and placing my fingers on my first barred G. Even though it was buzzy and muted, I still vividly remember thinking, "I am going to be able to do this". I can also remember banging my poor guitar into everything around me while I was learning to play. You just don't learn chords and strumming as a beginner; you also learn how to carry and handle your instrument. If you do manage to scratch the finish on your new axe, Jerry, don't fret (groan). All the scratches and dents will mean something to you eventually. It's also what makes your guitar "yours". I have a scratch on the side of my Yamaha from when it fell over onto a full shotglass of whiskey that shattered. It never fails to make me smile when I rub my fingers over it. |

Mike, Temp extremes are not the problem, it's the sudden change in temp. If the guitar gets real cold, let it warm up slowly. Humidity is a problem up here where we have forced air heating during the winter. The air gets drier than a popcorn fart. Guitars don't like that. Less of a problem down south though. DampIt's can be a problem if they are "over filled" I saw a guitar with the bottom cracked after one was used. Yes there were whiskers on the inside bottom too! Yikes! |

If you really want to impress D. with some new found virtuosity, tune the guitar in open D tuning. From the sixth string (six being the heaviest) to the first string, the tuning is like this. D - A - D - F# - A - D Give it a strum and that is a D major chord. Lay a finger, or a slide, across all the frets and strum another major chord. 3rd fret = F 5th fret = G 7th fret = A Have fun! |

Mike, It's the one with only one chord. Haven't found it yet? Heh, heh, heh. You can't Google everything, ya know. |

But you can hear it at Newfieville. (Plenty of time for you to make travel plans.) I'll add it to my play list - up to two, now. Well, three, actually. "Baton Rouge" is always the opener. ("I'm gonna get me some alligator shoes.") Gets me over the jitters. (That one you can probably Google.) |

I can't Google everything? My world has come to an end............thud (sound of head hitting the desktop). And if that isn't enough, I stopped in at the music shop last night and they'd sold the Washburn I was looking at. Oh well, time to haunt Music-Go-Round to see what used wanders in from time to time. thud thud (sound of head hitting the desk twice) Newfieville would make for a nice vacation though, especially since a Newfoundland vacation has been mentioned in the past, I'll keep it in mind. |

At this stage it might be good for you to understand that you don't have to know shit to make music. then there's hope for me yet! btw, my son Wade - Spreadem and/or FB2 here on BADWEB - is due to touchdown at LAX in about 45 minutes, his first time on American soil in about a year and a half. his gig as a cop in South Korea is done, and with any luck he will spend the rest of his Army career here in the States. it'll be good to see him again. Ferris, we must live in some parallel universe or something. JB3 is due to touch down in Indiana at 6:00 this evening. His first time home in over two years. Kim is understandably excited but he and I have been building this website for over six months and it'll be awesome to thank him in person for all his effort. Kids. What would we be without them? Tell FB2 we send our best and thank him for his service to our country. |

Here's a direct link: http://www.sadowsky.com/ They're in Brooklyn, NY. Interesting: http://www.sadowsky.com/pages/pop_up/jim_hall/hall_faq.html
quote:Why is the guitar made of laminated wood instead of solid wood? a) Jim Hall’s D’Aquisto is made of laminated maple. b) Jim’s previous guitar was an ES-175 which is also a maple laminate guitar. c) Jim and I (and many other players) believe that a laminated top sounds superior to a solid wood top when played through an amplifier, with less feedback as well. Of the original prototypes, one was built with a 5-ply maple top, and the other with a spruce top. The 5-ply maple was the clear winner when played through an amp. I have been successful in designing a top and back that is considerably thinner than any other laminates available. The result is greater acoustic resonance without any sacrifice in feedback resistance.

I wish you hadn't posted that Sadowsky website. I went to Mandolin Brothers yesterday (and es, Vick caught me. . . she's learned to call there when she can't find me) and I am going to try to hit Sadowsky next week. Incredible stuff! |
