Harley should open their eyes and start thinking outside the box a little. Take a chance and stop worrying about "The Lifestyle." A little less chrome and a little more function, and performance would go a long way! Look at the way "The Lifestyle" crowd reacted to the V-Rod, but not everybody wants a chromed out, two wheeled monster. I personally like the V-Rod Street Rod. But "it ain't a true Harley." |

Arlen Ness style... I see bit of ness but not a whole lot of it.. This bike reminds me of Beautiful caddy with wings..
Good for Victory...
Can't wait for their sport bike next year too..

Stunning. This is a great example of how a small motorcycle manufacturer can jump headfirst into the 21st century.
It reeks of quality and exclusivity in a market where two styles dominate otherwise - classic Harley or Honda. What a breath of fresh air from a sector of motorcycling I have no interest in. I'd cruise a continent on one any day, and look cool rather than staid and rather dull.

the angle in the above pic is the best view by far...i still think the front of it looks like a Suzuki Burgman, but it is starting to grow on me a bit, kinda like a wart |

Saw the bike today at the NYC show, looked pretty cool. Great fit & finish, looks roomy and glad to see it's just not another rehashed cruiser/tourer.
How long does something stay futuristic before it becomes common or antquated? |

Not my cup of tea, mostly 'cause I'm not real fond of the front fairing, but I gotta say the big honkin' tail light in a V shape is a great idea from a "don't rear end me" standpoint. Kudos for an original design.

HD making a radical styling change across the board would be a blunder equivalent to the "New Coke" fiasco of the 1980's. Don't expect HD to change till their bike sales start slipping big time. |

Reminds me of the Art Deco style studios of the 30s & 40s. If I were to ever ride a big bagger bike, I would have to give that one a try before the flying boxes from Germany, or the bat wing from HD, and way before the GLowing. |

As a fan of all things V-Twin, I like what I see so far.
I would have to see it in person to get any hardclad opinion, though.
Maybe a bit excessive in the 'bodywork' dept.
Since the days that Victory teamed up with the Ness's, there seems to be a theme:
"There's just one WORD, and that word is... SWOOP!"

I also saw it at the New York show yesterday. Personally, I think it's hideous. That's it's strong point. People either love the style or hate it. It evokes strong emotion. They'll probably sell a $41tload of them.
I guess that's a good thing. |

I've been following a similar thread on advrider, and that's pretty much the non-consensus there.
I think Victory knew exactly what they were doing with the styling on this bike, and they're not the first ones to deliberately take a "love it or hate it" approach.
A good example of this was the "new" full-size Dodge trucks when they were released a few (10? 15? holy crap am I getting old) years ago.
IIRC, Dodge had traditionally held about 10% of the full size pickup market, with the other 90% divided evenly between Ford and Chevy. They came up with two prototype trucks: one a mildly styled updated version of their earlier trucks, and the other the radical "clean sheet" design with big Peterbuilt-inspired grill, raised hoodline, etc. They brought in a bunch of folks and asked them what they thought.
~90% of the people liked the mild design, while ~10% didn't like it that much. OTOH 50% of the people HATED the radical design and 50% LOVED it.
Dodge went with the radical design, figuring that if 50% of the people that loved the radical design actually bought one, they'd more than double their share of the truck market, and they did.
I'd say Victory's taking the same route with this bike. |

an american company pushing forward with some "new" ideas. hmmm, you guy's are a tough bunch, cut'em some slack. seems like it might be pretty cool if your into that kinda bike. i hope it works for 'em.
now lets see that sport bike we know their working on!! if their willing to push the "envelope" on the boring side of the spectrum what can they do on the exiting side??? |

I want one. I don't need one. I'm certainly can't buy one but I definitely want one.
From the looks of it, how everything is laid out, the designers spent a lot of time thinking things through. And it shows. |

Looks as if they are trying to target the market of those who do not want the styling of a H-D, but still want a twin (possibly American) with the tech of the others such as the Beemer or GoldWing.
I guess the future sales reports will tell if they have a winner the bean counters want, even though it may be a winner after critic's review it - for what ever that may be worth. |

I saw the Vision in person this past weekend at the Javits Show. In person, it's STUNNING! Much better looking even than the Lightning Super TT even though it doesn't have number plates!
But seriously, it really is a good looking motorcycle. The photos don't do it justice. Basically, a designer has two choices: Make a bike that looks like everybody elses, or break new ground. We know what Erik Buell decided to do... so why not Victory too? |

jon, i kind of like it....not just like other touring bikes....not like your bmw.....I like the victorys myself.....I like the 8 ball, or the hammer....
used prices are not too bad either, especially the newer designed ones. I am going to try one in a couple of weeks, of course the bonneville I am looking at is about half of the price.
I wish I felt the way about the new buells as I do the triumph bonnevilles , the victorys and my tuber buells...the new ones just do not do anything for me, even though I am a buell fan....thanks, rex |

Forget the styling for a moment. Could you, as a Buell pilot, imagine DRIVING that thing? Now, I know it's not made to handle like a Buell. It's made for an entirely different market. Obviously.
I'm sure it's a great bike for people who like to clean bikes.
You can ride naked or you can ride chrome. I tried chrome. I recommend naked. |

Probably the most radical cruiser design I've seen since the Rune.... Whatever happened to the Rune? Was it just a limited run?
