I am a Red blooded, Red state American and I ride a Buell (but it is Black).
The salesman sales the bike line is a very true one...i run a car dealership and know a little about that myself.
The local H-D dealer (no longer Buell) about 5 minutes from my house had the Buell I wanted and when I went in to talk to them about it, the salesman never got up from his desk, never showed me the bike, told me anything about it or anything...and then he walked into the back to talk to the manager and came back with a price of MSRP plus all the tax,titlte,tag fees (no discount at all)...i told him i knew i could get one for much less, and he let me leave. I went home got on the computer did a dealersearch and made a call to a dealer two hours from me (who is one of the sponsors here), the salesman told me what they had in stock (both new and used)and went into describing and "selling me on Buells" and then told me what they were asking for them, i told him what i was shooting for and he told me he would call me back. after a couple of call backs from him we had a deal and i went two days later and picked it up. and he went over the bike with me about adjusting the suspension where all the controls and tools and etc were located and all the ins and outs of the bike...
my local dealer (who again no longer sells Buells, i don't know why?) calls about ten days later and says "my manager told me to call you and see if you still want that Buell." I said "not now, tell your manager that i drove to North Carolina and bought one already." |

I have no idea what colour my state is. I like all motorcycles. I own two Buells at the moment. Way to go Buell. Now split off from the Mothership and develop a new engine! |

Whatever. You do know that blue stands for Democrat, right?
I've actully spent a great deal of time on WI. The people are great, but I would say that it's far from a blue state.
What's NC? They seem to be pretty popular out here. I think you are mixing up your metaphors. I think Buells do exceptionally well in either heavily populated cities or surrounding moutainous regions.
I know that there are Buells in EVERY state out there. It doesn't shock me that Buells are popular in Oregon. Not too many in Nebraska. There are some, but just not as many as you would think. Pretty flat and straight out there in NE. Yes, it's a red state, but come on. Red and Blue have nothing to do with it. I had 3 motorcycles when I lived in NE. An MZ Skorpion, a Ducati 900ss, and a V-Star. I got rid of all of them while there. It sucked to ride out there. For one, in the summer, it's tornado season, and it seems that its damn windy in the summer. Winter, is a joke. Spring and fall. Both, not too condusive to the Ducati or MZ. Well, maybe the MZ. But my point is, the riding sucked out there and I just couldn't justify the bikes sitting collecting dust. Now, here in NC, I ride every week. I'm still looking for my damn ducati. I found it out here in NC. I told the guy that if he sells it, I got first dibs.
So, it's not about red and blue states. It's about states where theres alot of lefts and rights all in the same twisty road.

Wisconsin is pretty solid Democratic but we do have a different sort of Dem, used to be called Progressives back in the day of Fightin' Bob LaFolette. Tend to be liberal on most social issues and very conservative on fiscal matters.
We currently have two Democratic Senators as well as a Democratic Governor. Both the Senators are so into fiscal responsibility that Wisconsin continues to reside near the bottom of the federal pork barrel. Our guys don't try to get much pork and since they almost always vote against the other guys pork they wouldn't get it anyway. Continuing the tradition of the the guy who may be the stingiest elected federal politician of all time Bill Proxmire (Bill once spent something like $100 on a successful Senate reelection campaign) |

Dave sold .52% of all the Buells shipped last year.

Not sure I understand the blue state red state correlation. There has to be other factors at work, such as types of roads as mentioned before. And you can't really generalize types of people by political party anyways - I'm 23, well-educated, and live in the Northeast, and yet I feel trapped and abused by my state's liberal agenda.
Regardless, this all is both good and bad news. I love to see the brand, as well as the sport as a whole, growing. But I hate to see the exclusivity of my bike slowly fading away... |

CA is blue but I don't know what I am.
I'm not republican but I'm not a liberal.
I'm a democrat in the same way that JFK was a democrat.
Though it seems every year that the republican party gets a little closer to that ideal & the liberals drift farther away. 
I don't want a country that mothers me (as it seems the liberals would by deciding for me what's best for me).
I want one that lets me be my own man.
I want to see a "true" democrat party live again.

Way to go Buell!! I would like to see the model sale numbers. I know as far as for  six of us bought Ulys in 2006/7. That is pretty strong in a group of about thirty.
It's up to the dealer if they want to sell Buells or not. My servicing dealer sat on Buells for most of 2004 and 2005. I really thought that they were going to drop the brand. They would not even put up the Buell sign. Then the Uly came out. I helped the '06 numbers with a new Uly, the first in eastern NC. All of a sudden I go to the dealership and only one Buell there. I ask the GM, where are all the Buells? He says, Sold! I said what? He said he sold all the Ulys and the other two stores sold everything else and that they were waiting on '07. The one bike left was a Black XB12Ss.
I run into the owner one night as I picked up my bike after its service. He tells me that he is impressed with Uly buyers. He said prospective Uly buyers call him from a three state area telling him what they want and want to pay. They talk trade and everything by phone. After all negotiations are done the new buyer comes in, do the paperwork in a couple of hours and is off with the new bike. The owner told me he was impressed on how knowledgeable Uly prospective buyers are and how many BMWs he has taken in on trade. So impressed he is with the Uly he put one of his extra '07 Ulys in the rental fleet. Extra because Buell offered a chance to order more Buells and they took them up on it. After selling out of all but a few display Buells, they asked for more Ulys and Blast! They built a range for a Riders Edge program and put up that Buell sign. A true success story in my opinion. So if you are in central NC, go by Smithfield if you want to rent a Uly.

Profit, if not reinvested into the corporation or used to pay off debt, is shared among the owners of the corporation, the stockholders.
You democrats are funny. How'd you get to be "blue" anyway. The party color-coding is backwards. Communists are always red.

I would like to see a break down of how many of the buyers of buell brand are women. (I know we will get that report later) 4/17 riding in last year 3/14 the year before. And they are killing the numbers this year, both New Buellers from our shop last week were women riders. I have a sneaky suspicion that it is a higher % than women that are buy H-D  |

I live in Massachusetts. We used to vote Democrat for President, and Republican for Governor. Now we have an Idiot Democrat as Governor, who wants to turn this state into a haven for illegal immigrants. If you're in this Country illegally, and you come here, you won't be arrested for driving without a license, registration or having insurance, you will be given lots of free welfare cash, and the State will put your brats through college for free.
I think it's time to move.
All of which has nothing to do with how well Buells are selling. I hope the upward trend continues. |

It seems in the past that all the Democrat states would still elect Republican govorners in order to keep their money to themselves, but spend everyone else's in the country.
Now, Mass, NY, and I'm sure others all have Democrat govorners and their cash is disappearing - wonder how long this will last... |

I can't believe that a creative genius such as Erik could have a political leaning as politics are the antithesis of creativity.
(I would have preferred to use Haberdasher as my classic word of the day but it wouldn't work in my sentence.)
Anywho congrats to Buell on the ever climbing numbers and kudos to all of us for being a part of it. |

You guys are missing the point...I ain't talking about your personal political leanings (or Erik's) , but rather the general voting pattern of your whole state. If it voted Democratic last time around, it is a blue state...if it voted Republican, it is a red state.
Blue states have traditionally been the home of dealerships that sell more Buells...lots more Buells. That fact is more than just a cooincidence...it can be explained demographically, just as income and educational attainment are traits of voting patterns.
I wonder if the same pattern holds true for dealerships who have dropped Buell altogether? Are they concentrated in red states? That would be interesting to know.
Explain it however you want, but that is a fact...Buells are more popular where folks vote for the Dems. It is not a theory...the explanations are the theories.

The South is decidedly red except for Florida...probably because all of NJ and much of the Eastern Seaboard have moved there. There are Blue pockets in the South around the major cities, where the education and income levels are higher. In my home state of KY, it is very red except around Louisville, Frankfort and Lexington...the so called golden triangle where a lot of the people live and have a significantly higher standard of living.
I am not making a political statement here, as much as bringing an interesting fact to light.
