I feel a little awkward starting another HD thread here on the BadWeb, but need advice! I have an '07 Dyna for which I want a 2:1 exhaust. I am concerned about cornering clearance (please stop laughing) and have only seen photos of pipes, which helps very little. Any suggestions? Thank you! Steve | ||

I've got a Thunderheader on my RoadKing - it works well, but is too freaking loud, especially on long rides. Fortunately it exits under the right saddlebag which helps keep the sound tamed a bit. It's in tight enough that I drag the footboard long before the pipe hits. I've heard good things about R B Racing's units, though I have no personal experience with them. I run the thunder header on my Harley. It is a great pipe, and loud is the reason I got it  If you are dragging parts on the dyna, it might not be the pipe that is the issue. You might want to go to the sport Suspension off of the older FXDX Taller shocks and longer front fork springs will get you some more ground clearance. The Dyna is a sledgehammer for pounding the corners flat, have fun | ||

Thank you. I've heard a lot of good things about the Thunderheader. I'm trying to make the Super Glide more capable, both power and handling, without getting too loud. I didn't know the FXDX shocks were taller, that's a good tip. I don't know if its fork springs will work in the new 49mm forks. Two other pipes I was told to look into at a local bike shop are the Bassani Road Rage and SuperTrapp (guy says the SuperTrapp isn't out yet, coming in April). Looks like it will be the Thunderheader now, though. "pounding corners flat"  | ||

i had thunder header on my 03 superglide very loud on long trips!!! just bought 07 white road king classic,put vance& hines slip ons.now i enjoy the ride with less noise.my x1 has vance & hines ,use to have d&d way loud.loud is good locally but on the highway it gets annoying for my taste. maybe being 48 means i am gettin to be an old fart .. tommy nyc | ||

I'll tell you right now, the Supertrapp is going to make way more power than the thunderheader. I had a Sportster and we tried a Thunderheader vs. a new Supertrapp, and the Supertrapp was making over 7hp more than the Thunderheader at certain points. That's big. I realize that different pipes will work on different engines differently, but if I were you I'd wait for the Supertrapp, ESPECIALLY if volume is an issue for you. The Supertrapp is propably the quietest performance pipe you can get for a bike (though it isn't quiet by any means). | ||

whatever you decide on, I know where you can get it  I love the sound of the Thunder Header but they are LOUD! If you want the max power the ST might be the better choice | ||

Thunder Header or a Vance&Hines Pro Pipe is the way to go! Rhinehart just started making a 2 into 1 pipe that is good also! Either way, you can not go wrong. Just get the stage 1 system.. Pipe, hi-flo filter and the HD Race Tuner. | ||

Thunder header is fine, but loud as Dave says. We make an insert for them that brings the low end torque back to reasonable. Vance & Hines...er...uh....NO! Supertrapp and Bassani will make the best power. Thunderheaders are just loud and do not make smooth torque. I've seen the dyno sheets and Supertrapp and Bassani make a great, smooth torque curve. I have the Bassani Road Rage and my bike never ran this good. The Supertrapp will be quieter than the Bassani with near equal numbers. I just liked the look of the ceramic coated pipes without the guards. Two into one pipes are the best choice for torque. | ||

Wow! Thank you all for so much input, especially on a non-Buell topic. I've been unable to get much info on any of this, and knew this would be a good place to turn. I haven't been able to see or hear any of the pipes in person, nor see a relevant dyno chart for them. I had decided on the Bassani Road Rage based on some numbers I found for various rpms, but then was told that it was pretty loud. I didn't realize the Thunderheader was so loud either. Most all of my riding is out on quiet two-lane country roads...I don't want to become unwelcome in the small Florida towns I ride through each weekend! Looks like I'll try to wait for the Supertrapp, and if I can't I'll go ahead with the Bassani. Thank you to everyone again for the help! Steve | ||

I had a Supertrapp on my souped-up 1200 Sportster (89, sold it to buy a house. Damned if I know why. Can't ride the house to work) Anyway, the Supertrapp was great. It added a lot of HP, at least it seemed like it, and had a great sound. It wasn't painfully loud but it was deep and unique. I'd get another in a heartbeat. | ||

LC, the insert is a bolt in deal. We didn't like the torque curve we were getting with the Thunder headers and yet some folks won't here of anything else...so, we made a little modification. Sshbn, I have an order in to Supertrappp. I will have to see if your particular pipe will be in and when. We sell a lot of Supertrapp...it is our exhaust of choice for street applications. | ||

There is a widely known simple modification that can be done to T'headers that helps with the low end TQ. I have done this to the pipe on my 95" RK and it helped a lot.
