Dang, that is a great deal. I got my Ruger P95DC for $200 when I was working for a pawn shop, brand new in the case with extra clip and speed loader, and manual. |

guy that works for me got a visitor tonight at work it was his wife with his 40ve that he bought 2 weeks ago that he's only put 20 rounds through. long story short wife doesn't allow guns in house she found it brought it to him told him not to bring it home. so now its mine it'll be a cold day in he!! i'd let my wife run me like that. Than again my wife just got her concealment permit last week. she has no problems with guns. |

http://www.aimsurplus.com/acatalog/Hungarian_PA63_ 9x18Mak_Pistol.html Wish I had more pennies to spend... that PA63 is right up my alley (cheap, interesting, and effective), and that store is 15 miles from me. |

Reepicheep, my girlfriends best friends husband recently bought one of those maks and its the first time I had seen one with an aluminum frame. Dont know much about them but I used to have a romanian mak and it was very reliable. I bought it from AIM too as they are only about 30 minutes from work. If you see a guy on a black S1 in Lebanon its probably me. Small world! |

Yeah me and the wife see eye to eye on guns now also. She was anti-gun when we first met but now she loves to shoot. |

Hey Brian.. I think it's a common story. When I first met my wife, she was quite anti-firearm. Having been taught all the evil things they do by the usual suspects out there. Anyway, as we got closer, she started to learn a little more about the topic and soon was 'neutral' on it. Didn't hurt that at the time, I carried 24/7/365. The big change happened at a little event a guy I knew used to put on.. "The St. Valentines Day Massacre." Got her hands on and AM180, a Madsen a MAC-11/9 an AC556 and a 12ga. 870 AOW. She had a grin that wouldn't leave her face all day! The only problem she had was the 870. She did it TV style and punched herself in the gut pretty hard with it, but hey, she was still learning.. |

I've never liked the Ruger Semis'. Sorry, but I've always felt that the take down system was too difficult, making basic clean up a pain in the butt. Gimmie a 1911, Sig, HK or such in .45 and then we're talkin'. Also, you can get a nice 1911 for not that much money (although I've seen them cost as much as a new bike too). I am a firm believer in making it work. Oh, if you're just looking for something a little different, that packs a punch down range, is pretty accurate and has very little muzzle whip.. Look at the FiveseveN by FN. Feels like a .22 going off in your hand but has a lot more power moving down range. Pretty trick little cartridge. |

I've never been a S&W fan. I was an Narcotics investigator for almost 3 years and carried a 5904 9 mm for 6 months. Craaaaap. I ended up buying and qualifying with a SIG P226. If I were to buy new now, I wouldn't buy anything less than a .40. I work part-time for Gander Mt and we have a 40ve for $325.00. |

This is my newest acquisition. I hate to say it, but I just like the way it looks... that's the only reason I bought it. FN SLP semi-auto 12GA

the one thing i don't like about the 40ve i bought last night is the safety. It reminds me of the glock but for $175 its like a sore wang you just can't beat it. |

I have a soft spot for the H&K USP40 Variant 1 It is very versatile, reliable, and is incredibly easy to maintain and clean. For a carry gun reliability is the #1 priority. For that you can't beat either a revolver, or if you want a semi-auto HK, Sig, or Glock. As good as the 1911 can be it requires some careful gunsmithing to work well and feed reliably with anything but ball ammo. I shot one for a couple of years in IPSC (back before it became such an equipment race) and I saw too many jams to bet my life on it working when things go bad if it hasn't had a good ramp throat and port job. Of course Kimber and some of the high end pistols do come standard with these mods, but you need to be aware of it if you are in the market. For around the house the first thing I would grab would be my remington 1187 12 ga The only thing I need to do to it is have ghost rings installed. Of the guns I've had that I let go.. I would say my Dan Wesson 41v revolver (41 mag) and my M1 carbine would be at the top of my list. The Wesson, because I loved shooting steel with the Black powder guys with it. Ringing a ram at 300 meters with a revolver freehand just plain rocks! The M1 carbine was just a load of fun to shoot. The round is a very close approximation to a 357 magnum with a better sectional density. If you don't mind feeding it like a single shot there are some very good 110 grain bullets out there Sierra HPBTs do nicely for medium size game and are very accurate out of a good barrel. |

You cant beat a good shotgun for keeping around the house or for zombie attacks. This was my saiga 12 gauge before she was stolen:

Hey Reep! I got your gun! Actually it is one of the ones that was rebarreled to .380 ACP (aka 9mm Kurz). I've only put a few hundred rounds through it but it has spent a lot of time with me in trucks, cars, and motorhomes on trips. Small, light, and very safe stored or carried with a round chambered, safety off, and the hammer down. The double action first shot is very unlikely to happen by accident, it comes into play like a revolver but stores and carries easier. Never fired a shot in anger, but I had seven W-W Silvertips ready to go if needed. I have a Walther PP-K also, I have that to carry if I should ever have to wear a tuxedo. :> Jack |

The first time my wife picked up a gun, which happened to be my ported Ruger P89DC, she was consistently hitttin' clays from 25 yards...of course that was after some, uhum, expert coaching. Ruger, S&W, Colt, Remington...I have a few of each. The best deals are always on lightly used guns. A few of mine looked once fired with perfect finishes and were bought for half of retail. The Rugers are the ones that are treated the worst, shot most, and yet have been the most fun while remaining very dependable. My fave is the 1911, though, of course. |

I just registered on this site after reading references to it on Buelletinboard and adv. Then I find this thread and love it. I just wrote a letter to Taurus last night wanting them to bring the tracker revolver back with a 1.5" barrel, titanium frame and 45acp. I always thought that would be an excellent defense weapon. If your target is within 20 feet you will knock him down with that brick coming out the muzzle! Isn't it interesting how many bikers enjoy guns, must be a freedom thing! |

Back in the day I had the Sig SP2340, wish I still had that thing. Put 1,000's of rounds through it without a problem and it still was tight. Very reliable and light oh I think I need to go shopping. I hate threads like this because it just makes me want to spend some cash. I was looking at one of the above sites and saw the Glock 22 semi, that thing just look like so much fun. |

I used to have a colt delta elite 10mm (1911a1) that I really liked. I used it for a couple of IPSC matches, but the 10mm is a higher pressure cartridge was is very hard on the 1911. The 40s&w came out a couple of years later (a shorter/lower pressure version of the 10mm) and is a much better cartridge for most semi-auto pistols, and better for most shooters too with less recoil and less expensive ammo. FWIW One of the main reasons I'm so enamoured with the HK USP40 (variant 1) is the fact it is so close in function to the 1911a1, complete with the ability to safely carry it "cocked and locked", then you also get the advantages of a modern design, composite frame with integral rails, modular trigger group, and HK's legendary reliability. I would also have to get a 357sig barrel if I got another one though! |

I served in the United States Marine Corps with a Master Gunnery Sergeant who'd been shot down in Viet Nam (technically Cambodia where they were NOT supposed to be). The Captain who was flying the helo and him auto-rotated, hit the deck and were under heavy fire as they took off running. Captain Rosenthal told the story better than I could, but the MGSgt was running with a 1911A1 was that was so loose you could hear the slide rattling as they ran. . not target grade material. The Capt. said every time Tops turned and fired a shot, someone like 50 yards behind dropped. . . . the guy KNEW this pistol and what it could do. He swore by it. The other funny thing that happened was we were all sitting around the EM club one night when a Corporal with Shore Patrol came in. We were plastered and engaged him in a "how fast can you field strip and reassemble your weapon" game. We waited until he had that baby striped as far as it could be striped. Then one of the fellows slipped over to the call box and called the Provost Marshall and reported a gang fight. As the call came over his old Motorola HT-400 his pistol lay on the table in about 39 pieces. He yelled "awww shit", pulled out a hankerchief, scooped all the parts in and ran to his Jeep. We were rolling with laughter at the thought of him holding someone at bay with a hankie loaded full of parts. . . "freeze or I'll throw this bundle of parts at you!!" My personal love of the M1911A1 is purely emotional. |
