My wife has to be off playing piano during the airing of 24 tonight and is showing signs of distress over missing her Jack Bauer fix.

Anyone here recording it? If so, drop me a note .. I'd love to get a copy.

I'm thinking about buying a VCR, but want to wait till the prices come down. . figured I'd buy one at the same time I pop for a microwave!

Do the dish, Court and get TiVO...

I often wonder what I have been doing these past years without it.

With TiVo you can get a Season Pass and never worry about missing ANY episode, again.

Court,

VCR can be picked up for about $0.39 at Salvation Army.

DVR is the only way (and I don't even own a TV)

You still recording by pressing pointy sticks into clay? ;)

TIVO COURT!

I am watching 24 right now, and this is after I met the So Cal boys at our monthly bike night. I can now do my own thing with reckless abandon and never miss my shows.

Now's the time to buy a VCR if you still want to watch your tapes. New ones can still be had, but for how long?

I recently upgraded my Loewe. Brand new in the box and for a fraction of its original cost price.

Good news . . . the box set of the first 4 episodes goes on sale this morning!

Hmmmm....$0.39 . . . think they'll drop as VCR becomes more popular.

: )

*an older series 2 that needs a new hard drive, but other than that it is perfect.

At least they didn't blow up New York City on 24

There is a cheap way to make your computer double as a tivo

To the uninitiated.....24 is a show on Fox

My attempt to copy 24 with my 8 track recorder, failed. Sorry Court, I tried 3 times. I'm gonna put it back in the closet with my reel to reel recorder, turntable, vhsC recorder and my cassette player.

OcBueller - with an 8 track, you'd only be able to get a third of the show............

My wife wanted a TIVO in the worst way and I was initially resistant. I figured I didn't need anything to make me spend more time on my ass in front of the TV. I relented and we got one. The opposite has happened. You get to watch more and spend less time in front of the TV. You watch what you want, when you want it, and get rid of those offensive things...ummm what are they called? Oh commercials, that's it. I can't live without it now.

Bdabuell,

I am pretty weak on video recording stuff.

If I buy a DVR can I connect to my DirecTV HD receiver to it and record programs off the air and get good quality? And if I buy a DVR with a hard drive, will it store and then burn?

Also, how do you send Tivo to the PC? And what output connector from Tivo and input on PC is used?

Thanks,

Jack

Fox released the first four episodes of season 6 today on DVD. ~$15 for the DVD and a sneak preview of next weeks episode.

Tivo - absolutely!

Jack; since you have DirecTV already you can get a DirecTivo that'll hook into your satelite and you'll be up and running. The HD Tivo is still quite pricey and I'm not sure there is a DirecTV option for HD other than their own DVR - which isn't winning any popularity contests.

If DirecTV does offer an HD Tivo option, Tivo is well worth every penny.

Separate version 2 Tivos (non-DirecTV) will hook up to your computer network and allow you to move programs to a computer for burning to DVD. DirecTV Tivos can be hacked to do the same, but I haven't dared go there yet. Melissa would kill me if I killed our Tivo.

Jack - you need to have a wireless network in your house...and you'll need to buy a wireless adapter for the tivo ($40-ish for the adapter & it connects to the tivo via a usb connection)

Tivo supplies a software package called Tivo Desktop that allows you to setup transfers for programs

Get the DVR so you can record Mythbusters, Dirty Jobs, CSI, SPEED channel, M.N.F., Sports Center, and The King of Queens and you'll soon forget about that "24" b.s.

Or......record what you want at your leisure!
