The TT "trick out" contest has begun - you can vote once a day until 1/19 at: http://www.buell.com/en_us/promos/stt_contest/index.asp The pictures rotate, so the number changes, but here's my design:
Thanks for all of the positive comments - and thanks in advance for your votes! |

Yeah, I'm not excited about the current choices. Even my designs are weak (one using a trademarked logo-duh!) I should have given it more thought. Oh well WTF - sorry Spidey I was rootin' for ya. It was very hard to get an idea going with this that would not appear cliche-ish or over used (digital cammo was my first design). Marketability was also something to consider. Most, if not all, of the current entries will require their design to be masked on perhaps - transfered digitally then applied to the plastics I guess? |

Rasmonis, I really like your Venom design. With more details it can be a very nice paint job To bad it is not in the top 10, we can't vote for it... Unfortunately the flames one is not mine. I can't participate to this contest for 2 reasons. First it's not open for Canadian. Second, I did some paint jobs for Erik and I'm now on the Buell supplier list and it's also probably not open to Buell supplier. |

Voted for you Zenfrog How can the chrome one be in the top 3? Like that has not been done a 1000x before. |

Socal, It's not chrome, it's painted in scenes to wildly exaggerate the reflections in the curves, almost like magnifying glass. Actually really cool, I can't imagine how you can draw it. |

I think they rotate the designs to avoid "robo-voting" - some program logging in from different spoofed IPs and picking the same number. That's a guess - any experts in the crowd? A number of folks have gotten blank images and other weirdness on the main and voting pages. Dunno what's up with that... |

The simulated chrome design is amazing. A real nice design and quite a job to paint that one on a real body. |

Stou, Thanks, Here the first version of Venom:
I thought it would look cool using the Valencia Orange plastics, but they might be too dark. |

I'd like to see some of the other entries that did not make it. Spidey had a real cool design, no BS, definitely worthy of being in the running, IMO. |

Congrats on your entry, Zen! Glad to see a badwebber up in the final 10. OK, you asked for it, Rasmonis... Here's a few for thought: This was Al's concept.
If he had more time (and I had more time/technique with Corel), I think his could have developed into something really nice. But we started it on the 31st, before going out, so didn't get a chance to really flesh it out. Here's mine. I played with a few different ideas, and finally submitted this one. I kept on hoping until this morning that the email was on its way (ever an optimist, eh?)
"Lightning Strikes Twice" (the two lightning bolts merge into one). There's a bit too much dead space around the logo, but I think it had some potential. After I submitted that, I came up with another idea, which perhaps would have faired better given the judging criteria.
"Lightning Strikes the Concrete Jungle." The concrete/stucco texture fill on Isham's is better than the texture fill I used, and I prefer the chrome fill from Johnny's on the bolt. Wish I had more time/technique to execute the design - Corel is powerful, but has a bit of a steep learning curve. Its been so long since I got to play with graphics, I've forgotten a bit. My original submittal was going to be this:
"Airbox, Number Plate and Flyscreen," which I gave to a friend. His submittal didn't have the model in front, which would have probably have clinched a finalist spot, eh?. It might have made for a good conversation opener: Why is there a picture of an empty box on your tank? Well, its not a tank, it's an airbox. Really? Where's the gas?... Not every motorcyclist out there knows about Buells. Anyway, I really liked some of the ideas that were posted here - I personally would LOVE to have "The Scream" by Munch on the bike! Dave's is sexy in a tribal sort of way, and Brian's "Mean Machine" is fun... The female form on the tank by Buellinachinashop is very well executed, but I suppose it would have to be disqualified on the basis that someone would find it offensive. Some of the 10 finalists are really cool too - the #7 highway, the thumbprint/American flag, and the cityscape/American map come to mind. I wonder how many were submitted, and how many of them were Badwebbers? Very cool of Buell to put this contest out there! (of course I wish they had picked mine...) Joanne |

You can spoof an IP address to *send* a packet, but you will then never get the return packet. The return packet will be routed to the machine you are spoofing, which will recognize that it is not one it requested (due to a built in sequence number) and simply throw it away. An web request requires many turn arounds of the connection before anything happens. So you can't spoof an IP address on a web page full retrieval or submission. If you sucessfully submit or retrieve, you really are sending traffic from (or at least through) the IP address recorded. You can spoof IP addresses for denial of service attacks, but only because you never need to get any response to be successfull. You just send a boatload of crap with fake IP addresses to a computer, knowing that you will never see the response. The real problem Buell has is probably not with over-counting like that, rather their problem is probably undercounting. Large sites sitting behind a proxy (corporations) all appear to come from one IP address. So if 5 people at General Electric for example cast votes, the Buell site may be throwing away 4 of them as looking like duplicate votes. |

Blake, apparently Buell "rotates" the pictures through the voting slots. So #3 wouldn't be the same every time you go to the site. I guess they're trying to give everyone equal publicity and positioning. |
