Me the "Old Lady" and a group of friends are planning a trip to Cancun in mid may. We have been checkin out all the hotels via the internet. Was wondering if anyone has any first hand experience down there. Good bad or ugly. We are wanting to go the all-inclusive route, so any recommendations or places to stay away from would be appreciated. Right now the Gran Caribe Real is the front runner.

Thanx Jason

royal solaris caribe. Stayed there about 3 years ago. it was all-inclusive and really nice. large rooms, pleanty of bars and resturants on site. no need to leave the resort. not sure how things faired after the last few hurricanes. may want to check it out if you haven't already looked at it.

We stayed at the Melia Turquesa. It was absolutely fantastic!! It was all inclusive, a good location, good food on site, and plenty of activities. I would highly recommend it.

We are staying at the Blue Bay next week. I checked all the written reviews on Expedia and picked this place because of good feedback and also because it is the only adults only / all-inclusive listed.

I'll send you a review after we get back if you like.

The only thing bad about the blue bay is it quite a ride from the strip in cancun. It is a good 30 minutes by bus. Had some friends stay there once, we stayed at the grand oasis which was very nice. have been to cancun several times. good advice is to ride the bus every where, than a cab and the R-6 bus runs up and down the hotel zone all night. The buses are about 15 minutes apart, so not a long wait. Just tell the driver where you want off and they will stop. we have also stayed at the costa real twice (good budget hotel) and one rat hole called the el publito. Don't buy booze from liquor stores, go to walmart, MUCH cheaper.

I just happen to be searching for the same thing. Plan on taking the family for Xmas this year and leave the traditional stuff behind for others to deal with. It should be fairly easier since my kids are going to be 20 (son) and 17 (daughter - got to watch this one though) when we head down.
I'll take any input from all - THANKS

also stay in a Hotel along the main north south part of the hotel zone along. Beaches are GREAT. surf rolls in enough to let you know your on the ocean, but not hard enough to knock you down. If you look at the location of the hotel on the map you will see the lagoon on one side and the caribean on the other. That thin strip is the best place for the beaches. Further north past the point where the land turns east you get into the bay and while still nice isn't the same. The sand isn't as white and the water dosen't look as blue. Beware of time share hawkers, they will bug you to death. A good suggestion is when walking around, don't talk to anyone unless you are at their store or kiosk buying something., before you know it some timeshare guy ist trying to sell you something. Also don't get tripped into buying discounted tickets in exchange for looking at a timeshare. YOU
WILL BE SORRY. My vacation time is worth more than reduced tickets for a trip or tour. Also the hotel orientations are mostly just a time share ruse also, just ignore them and hang on the beach.
An all inclusive hotel is the best way to go. Eating and drinking in cancun can get pricy. Prices are as high or higher than the some of the states.

Well we booked our trip today at the Gran Caribe Real. I looked into the Blue Bay because I also was leaning towards an adult only resort. However, the group I am going with wanted to go to the Caribe. No matter, its all in what you make it. Margaritaville here I come!
