"You can mistake a Honda for a Kawi for a Yamaha for a Suzi. There's no mistaking a Buell."

I would say that's true of the new gen bikes, especially the Lightning, but the 2000-2002 tube bikes do resemble the Ducati Monster. Hell, even the new Lightning could be mistaken for a Speed Triple by looking at it from the front.

I own many brands of bikes, and have always been faithful to the Honda brand due to the stamina and reliablity of my
'69 CB750, it's still purring with just under 370,000 miles on it despite the abuse I gave it as a young adult.
Even after I started riding Harley's the Honda had a spot in the shop, and in my heart.
The day the tranny blew out of my Wide Glide on the way home from Sturgis and I limped it into Chick's HD in Albuquerque, I saw my first Buell in person.
That S2 emptied my wallet, and started a love affair that hasn't stopped yet.
I still have the Harley, and the Honda, but now own 4 Buells, 3 of them S2's. I put 148,000 miles on that first S2 before it was parked next to the Honda.
I'm currently riding a city-x for daily errands, to work, etc, and riding an S2 pumped up by Aaron Wilson for my distance riding.
I love the thought that the bike was created by one man's vision. I've met the man, and think he is one of the most down to earth guys I've met.
I like the fact that everyone I've met on this board in person has been of the same caliber. Simple, down to earth, and willing to do what it takes to help a friend in need.

I ignore all the bad talk about Buell, both on this board and anywhere else I may hear it. It means nothing to me.
Everyone has an opinion, and has a right to express it. I just choose to filter it out.

I don't need a water cooled, 1500cc, 200MPH, rocket. I just want something that will handle like a dream, and make me smile from ear to ear.
Buell's fill that need. My other bikes don't.

Just my 2 cents...

I think a lot of the negativity is because of H-D, the 800 lb gorilla in the industry.

You get a lot of the same cr@p if you read the HD boards too.

HD sells way more bikes, is a huge company, makes ( usually )a bunch of money so everything they do is perceived as a conspiracy. Kind of like hating WalMart or Microsoft.

Scooter, Buell just past the 100,000 bike milestone right? Some Jap companies makes that many in a year.

HD doesn't outsell Honda. Nor are they the big boy on the block in over all bike sales.

Ding...ding...ding....no more entries for the GENIUS AWARD. . . we have a winner.

Honda will build 12,700,000 motorcycles this year, a 3% increase over last year.

570,000 of these are for the USA, a 10% decrease from last year.

Honda will build about 40 times as many motorcycles as Harley-Davidson.

Comparisons are as futile as they are meaningless.

There are a few places on PCH I like to stop at and have a cup of coffie or some fish n' chips. The one place I almost never pass is Neptune's Net. Always 5 to 20 bike's parked. Never seen another Buell sense I've owned one. --Tdiddy

hi Joanne! : )

it's been an adventure, to be sure, with lots of highs (and plenty of lows), but we're FINALLY beginning to see some light at the end of the tunnel. if all goes well we'll close on our new house a week from today, then the REAL work begins!

we've enjoyed a teeny little bit of the Parkway so far (from the confines of my truck), but have barely had time for anything else but trying to find, and buy, a house. the process, unfortunately, has been anything but smooth, and being homeless for the past month has been extremely stressful at times.

the weather has been great, unseasonably so according to the locals (and the local and national news). cherry trees are already blooming in DC, people up here in the mountains are playing golf instead of snow skiing, and here in Galax, where we're holed up until the house closes, peoples' lawns are starting to green-up already.

i've only ridden the Road King once since we got here (for all of about five minutes), as we've just been too incredibly busy trying to close the house, working (so we don't fritter away all the proceeds from the 'Dome), and trying not to go stir crazy in the little (but nice) "apartment" we're renting.

incredibly, perhaps, the ONLY pictures i've taken since we left California have been of the place we're trying to buy, and with the exception of a few e-mails to family, this post is about the most i've written about our travels. the drive across the country, and the trials and tribulations of setting up temporary shop here in Galax and buying a home, have left precious little time for anything else.

good to hear from you, and sorry to keep hearing/seeing reports of Al's back problems. go easy on the old boy, ok??? ;)

our best to you and Al and Zach, Tom and Laurie, and to all our other West Coast friends. : )

FB&D

ps to Tdiddy: sorry we missed you at the Net!

Geesh Ferris,

Didn't realize you moved from Sunny California - Secretly your making your way over here aren't you? Knew those pics would work.

Why a Buell? Simply because I like them.

Why Buell #2? Read Above

Bart hit the nail on the head with his comments.

Now don't ask me why I went Dnepr? Still trying to figure that one out.

G2, thanks, much appreciated! (er, you don't know somebody with a moving van for sale cheap, do you???)

thx Kristi! right now "settled" looks a long way off, but if can get the derned house to close, we'll be a lot closer.

we still have to fly back to Cali, rent the biggest moving van we can find, load our stuff (yuk!), toss D's pick-up on a trailer out back, and make yet ANOTHER 2800-mile drive across the country. (er, you don't know somebody with a moving van for sale cheap, do you???)

we found a place literally right on the Parkway, which was one of our biggest goals, and it has enough garage space to keep our entire fleet inside, dry and secure, which was another major goal.

this sure is gorgeous country, and the people are great. it's easy to understand why your Dad chose to build his cabin up here. please give him our regards, and we're looking forward to the day we can hook up with some of you locals for a ride or three. : )

FB, Can't help you with the moving van acquisition. If the dates work I can come help you unload though (that does absolutely nothing for the trip and and the loading portion of this adventure.) If we have some prior notice I can bring my little guy along and then we can just sit back and watch : )

Ferris,

Have you looked into those "Pod" things. They drop em off, you fill em up and then they deliver them where you need em. I would go for convenience over cost and they look like a real convenient way to go. I've been thinking about buying a couple to make a house out of on moms homestead. Take care. See you at "homecoming"??

Rubberdown, thanks, looking forward to the ride. : )

Kristi, thx, looking forward to meeting (and riding with) you and Carlos. : )

Bigdad, thx for the offer of help. : )

Newf, i know you're famous and all, but those who have met me would hardly call me great. passionate about the ride, to be sure, but i should come with a warning label that says "NOT FIT FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION."

that said, i'm looking forward to someday meeting and riding with you. : )

Mad Duck, great to hear from you! i hope "my" Ulysses is treating you well, and hope YOU are doing well.

well, i know just enough about the pod thingies to know what they are, but little more than that, including the overall cost.

the best deal i can find on a rental truck is Penske. a 26-footer is gonna run us about $2600 (plus fuel, plus my time and labor) from CA to VA (about 2800 miles). i HATE spending money on rent, be it housing, moving van, or otherwise.

our stuff is in two storage units back in Wofford Heights, and there's no way a big rig could get into the facility to drop off any pods, plus i'm not sure the place would want their narrow passageways impeded any length of time by such a process.

we've got to ink SOMETHING today. i'll look into the pod thing some more before i pull the trigger. thx for the heads up. : )

Okay everyone this isn't a thread about Jerry's adventures across the Great United States! ;)
It's about "What Is It About Buells?"
Even though the thread took a turn, one can read what it is about Buells.
It's the people that buy them.
Why do like people buy like motorcycles?
Who knows.
I'm just glad I did, and found all y'all.
And Jerry, since you're now living in the neighborhood (Welcome to the Great South East! by the way) you really ought to see how the east coast does an event.
If you and D are settled in by the end of March, I know where there's going to be a major Buell event. It'll be in Suches GA on the weekend of March 31st.
We call it March Badness, and we'd love for you to come down and party with us!

My point was that even though it seemed to be going of track, it really didn't.
The people I've met because of Buell is "What it is about Buells" to me.
Jerry is a major part of Buelling.

I never thought about it, but before I got my Buell, I never became friends with someone because we rode the same brand of motorcycle. I never went up to someone with a Suzuki or Honda (when I had one) and said, "Let's meet up and ride".

And now, here I am making plans 3 months in advance for March Badness. Can't wait to get there again and see some old and new friends.

Ferris,

On that Penske thing, check out their drop off rules, I remember you can pick em up just about anywhere but they want them dropped off in some pretty screwy, limited, places. Check it out before you commit. I personally plan on never moving again. May work elswhere but my home base is now settled. Best of luck and look forward to seeing you again this summer.

Why most certainly I would! I'm just a few hours from Denver, isn't that where the bike is? It would be no problem for me to run it out to ya in the big city, if the need arises!

Glitch, thanks for the welcome and the invite to March Badness (and sorry to contribute to the thread-jacking...). it's been nuts since we landed in VA, and not likely to let up for a bit, but we'll keep MB in mind. : )

Mad Duck, we inked the Penske truck yesterday. the pod deal sounds interesting, but there were some logistical problems, plus the cost was twice what the rental truck is. drop off is no prob, there's a place about 30 minutes from our new place. moving sucks, to be sure!

Bart, i'm in line right behind you...
