hd offers an emergency belt kit that rolls up real small and is intended to be carried as an insurance and peace of mind item.

i realize the hd belts have a different size and pitch so we can't use this kit but is there anyway bmc can come up with something similar?

seems like it could go a long way toward tipping the whole belt/chain debate. a little peace of mind on a long trip would be great, besides then we could pull more wheelies while at MBIV.

I can see that kit working on a Tuber or even a Blast...

But not a XB.

at full extension a XBs idler pulley puts a lot of pressure on its belt. I believe it is over 250lbs (I am not sure if that is sq in or just 250)

that upward force in combination with the pulling force may wreak havoc on those screws used to hold the belt together

For "Limp Home Mode" I suppose we can simply remove the idler...

A slightly longer belt could be designed to take the pressure off, and thus survive in "limp home mode"

Remove the idler AND tie it together with Panty Hose.

It's a good idea, maybe some engineer can come up with a solution.
Don't sweat MB-IV, we have access to most any part you could break.
One rider tried keeping up with EB on a ride one evening, and ended up ditch digging instead. Among the damage was the rear motor mount. Clown got the part, New12r installed it (without some "necessary" tools, held up the rear with a log!), and he missed very little ride time.

I saw the emergency belt too and thought the same thing. I got the streetfighter seat and they gave me the HD catalog. Not even one mention of Buell. If I bought a Buell part why send the HD catalog? Does a Buell catalog even exist?

Cochise,
Can you expand on the Panty Hose method. Some of us aren't use to working with that stuff.LOL Is this something you normally have with you(in a toolkit of course) or convince your female companion to give them up for the cause.............Charlie

when was the last time you saw an hd snap a belt? seems to be more common to the buells. don't see too many hd's ridden as hard as the buells tend to be(i know some hd riders do ride hard but on a percentage thing it's pretty low).

seems every bueller i know kicks the snot out of his bike, as it's maker intended. these aint trailer queens.

i think most buell owners would opt for an accessory like this.

besides the r&d($) has already been done, just resize it to fit the buell. it's about being able to limp home, not finish your track day!

I saw a H/D break his belt once. He was trying to impress his buddies(at a bike show) By doing a smoke show (right after I killed my tire doin one)Keep in mind a cute blond wanted to see me smoke em up. so I did..

Any ways he barely got smoke rolling when POP goes his belt and the thing reved to the moon. I don't think his girl was impressed.

Priceless

Tubers use the same belt that the Sportys do. Is there an emergency belt available for Sportys?

Issue? Not really.
Did it happen? Yep, a few times to a few people.
Would I buy and carry an emergency belt? Yep, if I was on a long ride.

In the mean time there is the RAN page.

I think that the kit is offered for big twins because they have the primary and final on the same side
with the final on the inside.
I think you have to rip the whole primary to get at the final belt.

Yep. Big job on a big twin. On the other hand, try changing a tuber belt on the side of the road. Unless you have an S2 (or older) or an X1, you're screwed.

I'm on my third belt.

Hey Glitch, that rider was catching said target, the idiot just forgot to put on the anchors like he shoulda done

Anyway, the parts will be available for sure like you said, excellent group down that way!!!!

I've learned on a ride anything longer than 50 miles from home, I carry a spare belt.

Speaking of, anybody got an 02 or 03 belt they'd like to ship to me??!!
