brought up on another board zippy asked and said "It must be amazingly debonair to be skipping and a dancing thru life , not knowing that some motorcycles really do have a soul. My Honda doesn't have a soul, but my Buells, the Baja and the FX do.I feel their presence, their pain, their glory and their ever essence"

and he's so very right .

some bikes are soulless . yea you turn the key twist the throttle and they go like greased lightning but alas no soul ;-(

guess its a thing between a man and his machine . to me i'd much rather have the soul and that unique bond between me and my bike than the cold relationship of a bike that's supposed to be something better but has no soul . is just a cold hunk of steel aluminum and plastic .

sorry if that sounds like gibberrish , just rambling ; )

The S1 has a nasty personality/soul while the S3 is the mild mannered one.

My Dnepr is just a grumpy cranky old bugger.

As a motorcycle mechanic(Hondas), and a lover of machines in general...I think they all have souls. Some are more obvious than others.
Just like people, some people are just here to do their part, and make a dollar to support life...Others live life to the absolute fullest.
That is the difference...some machines are for doing what you want them to do, and some are your passion, your lover, your best friend.
Some you can tame, and some put the fear of god in YOU!

"some bikes are soulless . yea you turn the key twist the throttle and they go like greased lightning but alas no soul ;-( "

So if it's a warp speed leading edge machine it's got no Soul??

So if a bike is an underpowered and an underdog it's got soul?

Those are the reasons i stick to the machine/tool aspect of motorcycling. It keeps things in perspective. And NO i'm not a 21yr old squid/w no years of motorcycling experience.I'm 41/w 27

Comin' to ya on a dusty road
Good lovin' I got a truck load
And when you get it you got something
So don't worry cause I'm coming

I'm a soul man
I'm a soul man
I'm a soul man
I'm a soul man

Got what I got the hard way
And I'll make it better each and every day
So honey don't you fret
Cause you ain't seen nothing yet

I'm a soul man
I'm a soul man
Play it Steve!
I'm a soul man
I'm a soul man

Listen
I was brought up on a side street
I learned how to love before I could eat
I was educated from good stock
When I start lovin' I just can't stop

I'm a soul man
I'm a soul man
I'm a soul man
I'm a soul man

Well grab the rope and I'll pull you in
Give you hope and be your only boyfriend
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

I'm a soul man
I'm a soul man
You're a soul man
I'm a soul man
I'm a soul man
I'm a soul man

I'm sorry Woody, I am going to have to shut this thread down. Yeah, all threads on www.americanthunderbike.org are property of American Thunderbike Club, and therefore cannot be duplicated on Badweather Bikers.

Nah, I'm just kidding. My bike has a soul. Do you know why? Because it dances on the kickstand when it is warming up.

My 2001 X-1 with the Force Exhaust played music while it was warming up. Do you want to take a guess as to what it was playing? The drum solo at the beginning of Hot for Teacher by Van Halen.

I think all bikes at their core have a certain energy. The soul of the one who rides the bike, and the feelings they have about their bike, makes the soul of their bike.
The first time I saw my bike a tear came to my eye and I knew I loved her. And no other bike is like her. She has her soul.

It's human nature to "humanize" inanimate objects. Engines in particular cause they have two states; running and not running. And when it's running, it breathes, shakes, makes noise, has a feeing in your hands, etc... When ya put it to bed, it sleeps quietly. Yes, all bikes have souls... some just don't connect as well as others.

James brown's got Soul

Wo! I feel good, I knew that I would now
I feel good, I knew that I wouldn't of
So good, so good, I got you

Wo! I feel nice, like sugar and spice
I feel nice, like sugar and spice
So nice, so nice, I got you

When I hold you in my arms
I know that I can do no wrong
and when I hold you in my arms
My love won't do you no harm

and I feel nice, like sugar and spice
I feel nice, like sugar and spice
So nice, so nice, I got you

When I hold you in my arms
I know that I can't do no wrong
and when I hold you in my arms
My love can't do me no harm

and I feel nice, like sugar and spice
I feel nice, like sugar and spice
So nice, so nice, well I got you

Wo! I feel good, I knew that I wouldn't of
I feel good, I knew that I would
So good, so good, 'cause I got you
So good, so good, 'cause I got you
So good, so good, 'cause I got you

Sentimental claptrap! Yet....

We give our creations a piece of ourselves. The things we buy, and use unaltered tend to be less "real" than things we change, customize to fit our needs. Things we ride, things that move US have a more intimate connection than things we use while sitting there. How many toasters have names? Hang Glider, car, bike, spacecraft, all have quirks & tolerances that give them a personality in the eyes of their pilots. The weirder, the more pronounced the object is from "stock" the more we imbue it with a perception of life.

That said, I'm going to go let Buttercup ( My Cyclone ) dance across the driveway as I suit up, the take her out for a run.

Sam & Dave!!
James Brown!!
Thanks, Greg!

Like most humanoids, I occasionally get tunes 'stuck in my head', that keep playing regardless of how hard you mash the 'off' button!

If you're gonna get one of those songs playing, what better than the 2 mentioned, complete with lyrics, above!

I firmly believe that we can, and do, have the ability to impart living qualities into objects. I think that if anyone is going to do this on a conscious, volitional level, it would behoove them to ensure that if done concerning their motorcycle - that the 'soul' given the bike be one of an ally, rather than the 'opposition'!

I think that the "soul" we see in a motorcycle is more of a resonnance with our own.

Some machines don't have it. Others do. It has to do with the qualities the machines
bring out in US, not any innate value in the machine.

So yes my Firebolt has soul, in that I find a certain harmony with it on formerly
quiet stretches of 2 lane blacktop. I have become more attached to it than to
the many brand-X motorcycles because of this.

(End of serious portion of this post) : )

Erik is the Father of the Buell brand.
James Brown is the Godfather of Soul.

We as owners have a responsibility to our Buells' father and godfather to go forth
and spread our tire tracks and booming exhaust across the land.

Can I get a Halleluiah?
