I found a good deal on a wrecked XB9R. I think I can fix her up or use her for parts or a track bike!

It has a Penn Salvage title. Can I title/plates for the road? Get insurance? What does a Salvage title mean?

I live in TN.

Thanx Yall!

A salvage title usually designates that the motor vehicle has been wrecked and caused more than a certain % of damage. A salvage title just ensures that someone does not try to pass this vehicle/bike off as "in new condition" even if it has been repaired. You can still get a title and insurance. You can check with your local DMV or insurance agent about what the % is.

What ULY said, also vehicle cannot be registered until repairs are made as required for safety inspection.Bike will then have branded title. "Reconstructed Title"from DMV.

Check your local State laws on salvage titles. I know here in Florida lots of people use salvage title bikes as track bikes. I do not think you can register and ride on the road once the insurance company writes the bike off as a total loss. But, as a parts bike or track bike there is no prob... At least here in Fla..

Yep state by state the laws vary on salvage title vehicles. Ask your local DMV.

Not sure what the policy is in TN.

For us in Wisconsin, it's relatively simple. Just repair the bike to include headlight, tail light & marker lights. Then get it inspected by a certified state trooper. But in IL, you need to be a state certified rebuilder to get a bike title.

If you need some help, ship the bike to me. I can title & then send back to TN. I think I can do up to 10 bikes a year without a retailer license.

I'd say so, since he clearly states he does not send out 2nd chance offers. Glad you caught it before $$ left your pocket.
