Quick question, I need help.....
Just picked up the VDSTS, came with the STANDARD version 2.81f software. Can I reset TPS etc. with this version or do I need the PRO version? I'm not seeing how to go about this with the standard version. Maybe I'm overlooking something in the pdf manual or Help menu. I admit, being too excited to have the VDSTS finally and in a rush I may not be taking enough time to look things over fully. Pardon my childlike innocence!

If you can get the damn thing to connect you will be a HUGE step ahead of me.

I have tried two different laptops, two different ECM's and the best I can ever do is connect for a few seconds, then it takes 1 couple of minutes to reconnect

I even returned it to Technoresearch once and got exactly the same cable back.

Not Impressed. At this point I few it as $200 down the toilet.

Garp,
Every once in a while I have the same problem.

What seems to work is running a active tes on the fuel pump or injector and it seems to connect quicker when I go for the TPS degrees before the reset.

I have done about 10+ bikes so far...

Garp, are you using the Keyspan adapter or another brand? I've got the Keyspan and really have no problems connecting.

Instructions say there is a TPS Reset button, I have none. All I have for the TPS is the active test mode button. Is that it? I have played with that and it "seems" to set the TPS but I am not 100% confident. What versions of software do you all run?

No, I don't have to tell it to re-connect, it does it automatically. However, the longest it has ever connected for is about 10 seconds. then the connection drops and it re-connects. One day I'll get around to trying again, but I have wasted about 4 hours so far trying to get the damn thing to work.

I would have been far better off in terms of time and money just taking it to he dealer.

By the way I am not using any adapter, I have a laptop with a real serial port. The port is properly configured, as I can connect however briefly. I think the cable has an intermittent short, by clearly Technoresearch doesn't think so as they sent it right back to me...

Call the VDSTS Help line. I forget his name, but he was a huge help when my VDSTS was doing the same thing you're describing. Turned out I needed to download the newest version of software from the website. It's worked well for me since.

Garp your frustration is understandable.

I second the suggestion, call the help line it sounds like a timing error internal to the software or other setting, I too have a laptop with an on board comport, a thought did you "upgrade the OS? or is it Win9X

OS 98 was bad for killing ports while in operation.

Your description does not match intermitting cable,
If the dongle is going south the problem will get worse over time.

I have noticed that IF the port locks up even with xp you have to restart the application and at times the computer.

I dread the day my lap top dies, the laptop builders decided that most PLC programmers / industrial techs
dont need com ports in their computers any more either, I guess they never have packet crash ...
