So this squid I work with bought an 03 gsxr1000 about two weeks ago. On saturday while I was taking a delivery he pulls up alongside me on it. After we talk a little at the light. we pull away and he yanks up a stand up wheelie right next to my bronco! Just then travelling the other direction is a police cruiser. he set the wheel down and punches it... I thought he got away, but it turns out about a mile away he slowed down thinking he was in the clear on a different street. He gets cut off and ends up lowsiding at 35mph. As he picks up the bike the same cop pulls up and they cuff him and stuff him with a 20 point ticket. I saw him today and he told me his sob story. I just laughed and told him he was a ••••••• and got what he deserved. Luckily no one else was injured. | ||

Similar, but unrelated... I pulled on to a street that I intended to turn left off of at the next block, but there was a line of cars three blocks long already piled up at the light waiting to turn left. No way I was getting in. Or so they thought. I waited patiently for someone to let me in, but no on did. Then I noticed someone not paying too much attention to their driving, and I gunned it to squeeze into the space left by the advancing cars in front and the moron on the cell phone behind. I surprised myself by pulling the tallest wheelie I'd ever managed (quite by accident) and promptly jammed the rear brake to keep from putting my front tire through the rear windows of the car in front of me. So there I was, nicely placed between the two cars, both wheels on the ground (the entire "merge event" took less than two seconds) when I noticed one of the police officers working the accident at the intersection walking towards me. Oops. Apparently, I was too concerned with merging to notice that there were three squad cars on the other side of the road. So the cop stops walking, looks at me, looks around. Looks down. Looks at me. Looks down. Turns around and walks back to the intersection. I guess he convinced himself that he couldn't have seen what he just saw. Hell, I was there, and I don't believe it. I couldn't do it again if I tried. | ||

So lowsiding and getting thrown in jail was a deserved punishment for pulling a wheelie?!?! Glad I dont live in your world cuz I would be a tourture victim!! | ||

Yeah I think that's a little harsh too dude. He was excited about his new bike and probably wanted to flaunt his stuff a little because he knew you were watching. I wouldn't wish a crash and a trip to jail on a guy that was just doing what young guys do in that type of a situation. Based on what you said, it didn't sound like the wheelie was done in a particularly dangerous manner. However in your defense, I don't know if I would condone running from the cops; that puts everyone around them in danger. If he got caught horsing around a little, he should have pulled over and taken his medicine. More than likely he would have gotten off with a warning or ticket depending on the attitudes involved. | ||

Yeah, it's the running thing that got his ass in such a bind, the wheelie would have been a reckless charge or similar - but evading AND speeding AND failure to yield AND signal violations AND whatever mechanical violations that the cop can writeup... gets pricey. That $300 ticket became a $3000 court case because he reacted like the typical young guy doing what "young guys do" in those situations... BS! Run from the cops, they're just going to look at you differently than if you just pull over. Trust me on that. Talk about reinforcing the bad/young sportbike rider stereotypes. And some people wonder why the police are watching us so closely? As long as we make up excuses for "boys will be boys" actions, we're pretty soon going to see the truly fun bikes outlawed. We are not that far away. | ||

I am kinda harsh on him because I have to work with him and listen to him talk about how much he loves to wheelie. The street we were travelling on is college avenue basically the main street in fort collins. The cop told him he was clocked doing 102 when he decided to run. All that on a busy street is pure stupidity. I don't give him any sympathy because he endangered my life. The just being young and wanted to show off excuse doesn't fly either keep stunting to the back roads and closed parking lots. I'm 26 and I don't feel that kind of show off need. | ||

It can be summed up like this don't do the crime if you aren't willing to do the time. By the way his bike only received minor damage to the sliders and he got a little road rash on his elbow and hip. So the crash wasn't as spectacular as it might have sounded. And if you really want to impress me take it up in the canyons and start pulling some sick lines. | ||

I did not gather that he "RAN" from your first post. Only he "saw a cop and gunned it". If he ran knowing the cop was coming for him than I see your point. Now, I am 28 and I dont "Show Off". I find the complexity of wheelies, stoppies, and stunting in general to be a great challenge to myself. I do nothing for the crowd, only my own personal satisfaction. Call me a show off if you want to but that would be an inaccurate statement, and you can watch me wheelie away from you not having a care in the world if YOU or ANYONE likes it or not.(and no I wont be in traffic) | ||

I am always amazed when I get pulled over (not alot) the cop always has a funny smirk on his face and says: "Wow, you pulled over, most of you guys don't stop. Did you know you had a headlight out?"  | ||

I was going to type out a long paragraph about all the things you said Randle but it really just boils down to you're an ass.I'm 34 been riding since I was 10 and on the street for 13years. We've all wheelied or sped or went down. Remember this when you're telling your own sob story and nobody gives a rip! | ||

My 1.5 cent... Wheeling, while not appropiate in all situations= a little fun. A reckless driving or improper exhibition of speed ticket can be contested in court. If you give a good enough "story" a judge might buy it and dimiss or minimize the charge. Running from the law= I hope you get the book thrown at you. You are endagering the public around you, the officer and yourself. It is a felony in Florida... | ||

I got a good one for you guys. I have this guy he's about 27 just a little older than me. Well anyway he was at the local kwik fill putting gas in his 500 ninja. Finished filling it up and noticed couple young girls looking at him. Well sense they were looking at him the must be checking him out. So he gets this great idea to do a wheelie for them. So he yanks the front end and gives her gas. This is where it gets good he flies across the parking lot headed for the store. Hits a parked car flys over its roof and hits and slids down the hood. Ends up on the sidewalk right at the feet of a local cop that was coming out of the gas station. He didn't get to badly hurt broken finger some road rash or should i say car rash. But the good news is he got those girls attention. They ended up calling 911 for him. Getting on there bicycles laughing at him and peddling away.  | ||

Quartermilegixxer I wish you would have typed your paragraph because I really enjoy a good internet scolding. I agree with you that I have sped and I have dropped my bike. But anytime I see the flashing blue and reds I pull over. That is why I have no simpathy for this kid. He wheelied on a busy street in traffic then ran and he got what he deserved I believe that that is the definition of kharma. Just like the title says. | ||

I agree we all screw around from time to time. The difference between the adults and the children is that the adults take their lumps if they get caught in the act. The children try to run away and hide. I think that is the crux of the matter.  | ||
