Saw this Squid on the beltway at the beginning of rush hour today.

At first I thought he pissed @ me for getting behind him, but I didn't get close or to him or anything I made sure he knew I was moving into his lane.

So he kept looking back, locking up his rear a few times (setting up) before pulling a wheelie for about 1/4 mile or so on the passing lane. I stay in my lane and eventually catch up.

Dude then gets his butt on the rear of the bike reclines and pulls another wheelie using his feet to work the throttle. He rode like that for a while, not quite a 1/4 mile.

He was fortunate, obviously talented, but definitely lacked good judgment.

err...I mean...he should really be more careful, he could hurt himself or some innocent bystander, yeah that's it.

The guy sits way back, reclines, puts his feet on the handlebars, then up he went. Just like that. He then had to sit up ("positioned himself in a "L") and leaned to the right to see where he was going.

The front end came down hard (left a skid mark) but he seemed to have had it under control the whole time.

The bike was almost completely vertical.

I had some fool on a gixer sebum fiddy behind me on Greencastle Rd in Silver Spring the other day around rush hour. We were stopped at a red light waiting on traffic to clear, then I see a good size gap to pull out in and go for it. This jagoff comes screamin by me in the same lane completely tucked and grabbin gears. I can see the light at the next intersection is RED. He looks back and engine brakes to the light shaking his head. When this light changes I take off like normal and he pulls a wheelie right next to me and surges the throttle while looking at me. Whoopdy Frikin Do! i decided to hang back and let him go, when he saw I wan't taking the chase he sped off.

I can't believe how brazin these guys are stuntin in traffic. IM MY LANE NO LESS. I thought my biggest worry was all the cages around me. Sheesh can see why so many guys and girls stick to track days.

Riding like that on the street is just tempting fate. There are too many distracted drivers, gravel, debris, pedestrians, etc...
It's dangerous enough riding responsibly. In my early 20's I used to ride a little crazy- it was all ego and thinking I was invincible. Now that I have a family to take care of, its not worth the extra risk, and I no longer care if everyone on the road thinks I'm fast or skilled- I've got nothing to prove.

Hey:
Tuesday AM riding in to work get behind a blond chick in a gold honda she is old enough to be married, She is intently looking between the road and some thing in the front seat ( while driving slowly and weaving ) I follow her for a few and when it gets bad enough

First I sound my horn to see if I can get her attention. Then when that fails I pull up next to her to see if she has a sick kid in the seat or something,

Whats there? papers and a bloody laptop, she has a BOOK in her hand, she appeares to be doing home work or some thing. At this point she is oblivious to my presence and does not react until I rap on the window!

I gesture to her,
You, eyes on the road and drive,
you are weaving,

I got a dull look of incomprehention,

I waited util she pulled away still doing the computer thing and kept her in front of me until she turned off

Had I been a cop I would have sited her for reckless and taken her to jail!

Squids come in all shapes and sizes.

I live in a university town and around here, a young girl who does NOT have a phone glued to her ear with those ridiculously giant 1970's retro-looking sunglasses while careening down the road in daddy's new Beemer is definitely unusual. Fender benders are very common around here.

Guess you can see why I don't bother "running the gauntlet" on my bike trying to get to class. I hoof it and walk against traffic on the edge of the sidewalk so I can keep an eye on the little dingbats. We even had a fellow student ran over on the sidewalk from behind this semester. I'm all for a phone ban for drivers.

Ras, that is unbelievable.

Drivers in the UK have been prosecuted for eating an apple whilst driving, and one guy drinking from a bottle of water whilst at a red light.

yea, but a persons rights would be violated if you tried to do something like that here. i've been hit by someone probably eating and my daughter was hit a few months ago on my cyclone by some girl probably on the phone. she was lucky she got away with some road rash and some scarring.

What got me was the potential for catastrophe. If you want to squid fine - do it in a parking lot or country road away from people, but squidding in rush hour on the DC beltway (between 450 & College Park exits)is just plain suicidal.

Any of you who have had the unfortunate opportunity to experience this traffic, knows what I mean. Almost as bad as Atlanta, not quite as horrific as LA, but close to both.

Just look at some of the streetbike clubs and the rediculous things you have to do to join. Its not just about signing up, payin a fee and getting a patch. Top end runs, splittin cars at speed etc. I don't see the need to run all the way around the beltway just to add a new member.

Most of these fools can handle a bike well but get them anywhere near a corner and it like drivin in Jersey, you don't have to stop to turn. Specially on a race replica bike. A little common sense could go a long way.
