Can anyone refer me to a hotel in NYC that is easily accessible from JFK and a good price? I also need parking and will be staying 2 nights so would like to be able to get downtown easily.

Thanks for any help!

JFK is in Queens, and not exactly a hop skip and a jump away from downtown Manhattan. However, if you can forego the need for parking (you don't need a car with NYC Mass Transit, and you'll save yourself a LOT of aggravation if you skip a rental car) you can take the AirTrain to Jamaica Station, and from there catch a train to Penn Station and a subway to almost anywhere you want. That being said, see: http://tinyurl.com/juukk

And here is a link to information on the Airtrain: http://world.nycsubway.org/us/airtrain/

Good luck!

From Jamaica Station, both the Long Island Railroad and the "screamin'" E-train is a good way of getting to Manhattan. A-train from Howard Beach is the longer way round.

And renovations are in full swing again. Need to get the basement mostly done in the next couple of months : )

Please don't lure him into another home improvement project or we'll never see him.

By the way . . I would NOT rent a car in NYC. A car here is a HUGE hinderence as I proved to a group of Buell employees last Friday night.

The hotels around JFK are primarily "around major airport hotels" (DUH??) and set up to cater to seminars and so forth.

If I had a choice and wanted to see the city, I'd opt for something like the Roosevelt. You're going to get a very SMALL room but it's an okay place at at $150 a night it's about half what the other "decent" places are.

NYC has incredible public transportation. A rental car will cost you a boat load of money, figure $50 for overnight parking and once that rental decal is spotted in the back window, welcome to my world of $115 tickets. Get that baby towed, a fairly common occurance, and you'll see a side of NYC few (cause they don't rent cars) see.

: )

I would hope to get up that way while the tribes are gathered. The week of 12/25 (which is on a Monday) is pretty much out, so I'd like to see it targeted sometime early in the week of 12/18, or perhaps the weekend of 12/16-17. I understand that the Man from Oz will be in town that week, and I'd hate to miss the opportunity to nearly get arrested with Paul again...

Court speaks God's own truth on the rental car issue. Had a rental car towed there once. I was against parking in the "restricted" zone next to central park, but my VP of Operations and corporate General Council who I was chaperoning assured me that it would be okay for just a half hour, just enough time to grab a hot dog and see a bit of Central Park. "Didn't we park here?" Amazingly, we still made our flight out, and I expensed the $280 cab/towing/parking-ticket fees. We still laugh about that.

Too late - Operations Basement launched this weekend with a major clean-up, sorting and boxing of stuff. Next is demolition, wiring, rockin' etc. etc. etc.

My garage will remain "squadder free area" : )

I thought it was like squadder's rides. Those were the motorcycles ridden by the people who settled the West.
