hey, i ride a duc s4r right in manhattan pretty much everyday. so i'm riding around my neighborhood today in the west village and a i decided to take a close look at this bike i've been seeing for the past few months that's been parked on greenwich & perry (anybody know who's it is??). it's a black lightning with the tail chopped (looking hot). so of course when i get home i start doing some research on these things, and so far i'm pretty impressed by what i'm reading. i've also been thinking about a new bike. so i read up on the xb12scg and this whole "streetfighter" marketing thing they got going. so can anybody make a comparison between the s4r and the xb12scg? i know it's subjective but i'm really wondering if there's any true advantages to riding the lighting in manhattan traffic compared to my ducati? any advice would be awesome thanks. ephman | ||

I have never ridden an s4r, but I have been to NY enough. First off you are crazy for riding in Manhattan. (got that out of the way) From what I have read the s4r has more power, so I don't know if that is what you are looking for. The real benefit I see is that no one is looking to steal a buell. I know there are a few that have been stolen, but compared to the theft rate of a ducati it is a non issue. I imaging other will chime in with other details. | ||

this is great stuff thanks! yah the s4r is a pretty powerful machine, but that's not really what i'm looking for (been there done that). but i'm looking for a machine that's going to basically be an extention of my body, something really responsive with some sweet torque. i don't lane split or do any fancy moves cause on manhattan streets it'll get you injured pretty quick, too many moron taxi and limo drivers on the road. now i'm not the tallest kid on the block i'm a little dude about 5'4" (but in great shape). so i need something that i can handle and i saw that lighting on the street and it looked like something really easy for me to fit on well without messing around with the seat. so with that stuff in mind do you think the xb12scg will do the trick? hey court thanks for the offer but i'd feel so bad if something happened. also, in the nyc area any decent dealerships i can head over to that don't have major attitude like the ducati ones do? thanks, ephman | ||

NJ dealers Seem to be the way to go in NYC area though you can try NYC HD in Long Island City. ( I have not been there so i can't say one way or another) Avoid Long Island, waste of time!! ( I know I live there). Just ordered my 1st Buell from Liberty HD/BUELL in Rahway.Great guys and they know the brand. Good luck!! | ||

For a complete discussion of an XB in Manhattan go HERE. Going to a "Buell" dealer in New York City is like going to a proctologist in Des Moines. . . . you're taking huge chances. There are top quality dealers in New Jersey and CT. Liberty is the closest to me. They are doing a wonderful job with the Buells. Court | ||

If you can handle the height of the city cross the xb9sx, I believe it's a better bike for the city ride. You sit up nice and high, which enables you to see over many vehicles. It has the same nimbleness as the scg, it's a great handling bike and has plenty of power. AND...it's FUNNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!! Go test ride both bikes and see what you like. | ||

In defense of Long Island... Bellmore HD really seems to be ramping up their Buell support lately. Just a little bit upstate (and anything north of the Bronx is "upstate" to us down here) is New Roc Harley/Buell and those guys are GREAT. I have an earlier post on this board regarding those guys! | ||

ok i'm back one last time. i walked past the persons bike again. and inside the speedometer housing there was something written about a custom place in brooklyn for buell's, it had a name, but i didn't write it down cause i was in a real rush to get some place. but on my way back he put a cover over the bike and of course i didn't want to mess with it. anybody know about a place in brooklyn the does custom work on buell's? i tried doing a search but came up dry. his bike looks so sweet it's all painted black. not that i'll ever copy it, but the work looks like it was nicely done. plus his pipes were all wrapped with some type of fabric? so any help figuring out this brooklyn place would be great! thanks, ephman. p.s. thanks court for that link to your posting, that was awesome stuff. good work. more and more i'm thinking about ditching this s4r (although i do love the bike, might keep in the family and give it to my brother he could use an upgrade bigtime). | ||

Ephman: Don't buy into the "Buells in Brooklyn" thing . . you can do no better than Rahway. If you want to ride and try different Buells, just let me know. . . it's easy to arrange. |
