Those guys got serious about physical training a few years back too. You probably have to work out like a pro athlete to keep your job. Just remember, you probably only have to screw up one tire change to get fired. (Message edited by whodom on August 16, 2006) | ||

The average entry level job right out of U.T.I. starts in the high 40's, low 50's as an engine disassembler. Now NASCAR teams have to pay overtime as well. Previously they claimed to be in the entertainment industry which doesn't have to. The money is good but the hours are long and the average NASCAR employee only stays in the game 3-5 years. Unless you're a higher-up forget about seeing your family 9 months of the year. Most of the big teams have great benefits and perks as well. Earhardt's shop has one of the best resturants you'll every eat at, period, just for the employees and guests. No junk food in the whole place and everyone has to walk, there are no bicycles, scooters, etc. on the campus. I was fortunate to get to go on the "sponsors" tour of the complete facility last spring and I can tell you if I had to have surgery anywhere in the Mooresville area, I'd want it anywhere in the Earnhardt facility, the place is beyond clean!! After the tour, I can home and just about burned my place down, if you get a chance to tour a race shop of that caliber, do it, not only is it inspiring to see how the "pros" do it, you'll also pick up an idea or two for your home shop as well. You don't have to like NASCAR to appreciate what they do in their shops!! |
