I had a carry permit about 8 years ago. The fact that it was only good in the state it was issued, and that my normal style of dress doesn't lend well to concealed carry caused me to not renew it.

Situational awareness proved to be a more effective "weapon".

Good SA is what most folks learn from carrying concealed. This is due to the paranoid feeling you get from concealing a gun. Ordinary people who see the imprint or otherwise "catch" you carrying may react in any number of ways. It is most desirable not to get made.

It reminds me of those times in my early twenties when I would get a monster zit on the back of my neck. I would constantly be thinking about it and whether other people noticed it when I walked in front of them. I would even try to shrug my shoulders slightly so as to raise my shirt collar in attempts to cover it. I became acutely aware of people around me and was obsessed with positioning my body so as to conceal it. In the end, I think it sharpened my senses and made me a better person overall.

The "N" word is a de-humanizing label that brings with it the contempt and disregard of human lives that slavery was. Redneck is almost comedic to me.

Well I find redneck to be almost allways be used in a de-humanizing form. Such as mis-spelling and making generlized comments.

Replace ANY saying with either word and see how you feel? Would you say the same thing with the other word?

oooooooooooooooorrrrrrrrrrrrr, "massah".

last summer, at the saloon where i was tending, we hung an enormous stars n' bars, and a sign that said 'rednecks only'.
it was hilarious. our total business, esp. yuppies, etc., went htrough the roof.
I've rarely made so much cash as when we had that flag and our redneck sign out there.
hell, i'm proud to be a redneck.
ummm...pammy: why the change in spelling on "pursue"?
and to badweb's mystery low-star jackals: why all the low-stars on my posts?
a little cowardly, trampthinks.

GIVE A FREAKIN' BREAK!!!! Let the people who are called these names decide whether or not if it is racist. I am a REDNECK, I don't care if you call me redneck. I don't think anybody cares if they are called a redneck. Get off the soap box people.

You mean wrong spelling...does the wrongly spelled version of pursue mean something other than I could be a bad speller? If so, please enlighten.

So you work in a bar and you know something about everything....Hmmm, has anyone ever mistaken you for Cliff Clavin?

Hey folks, I hope that I have not given anyone here the impression that I might be rascist. Far from it on my part. As far as my post, it was just my answer to a question.

And Trampy-doo, the Cliff Clavin remark was just yankin' your chain, dude. I don't know you so I can't dislike you.

The "N" word is my favorite word in the english language because it's the only one left with any shock value. It's the only one so horrible that we can only refer to it by its first letter. My dictionary has almost 2000 words in it that begin with the letter "N" but only one of them is "the N word." We're so desensitized to "bad" words that most of them have completely lost their impact, and that's one of the few that can still elicit a gasp or make someone squirm in discomfort.

I find the N word interesting as well. If it is pronounced with an 'er' sound at the end, it's racist no matter who says it. If it has the 'uh' sound, then it's only racist if uttered by a non-black person. It's all flipping stupid if you ask me. There are plenty of other things to get pissed about.

what word means "ignorant"???
Niggard means ignorant and slovenly, but Nigger is simply the 19th century contraction of the french negre, which was spouted about in the deep south by levassieurs, etc.

ummm...Pammy: you went out of your way to intentionally change the spelling to 'persue', I was just wondering if it had some good comedic meaning somewhere.
..and, um...cliff clavin was a customer, not a bar owner/mgr.
bartending at agood scooter dive is possibly the most fun job in the world.

"ummm...Pammy: you went out of your way to intentionally change the spelling to 'persue'"

O.K. I don't understand this one. I broke down and checked the old dictionary on this one. What other meaning (in your world)might that have? And I "went out of (my)your way to intentionally" mispell a word? WTF? Are we in bizarro world here?

Another thing...about the stars and voting. I haven't been paying attention to that little detail. I noticed (just now), in retrospect, that you are the only one with any stars at all. I figured you were voting on your own posts. I didn't bother to go back to the archives as it really isn't that interesting to me.

Yep, Chasespeed, Redneck had the ignorant implication. Someone who works with a plow all day would have a red neck and no proper schoolin'. That's the way it was here in the good ol' south. I always thought the rascist version of that was called a skin-head. That's the way we saw it, since most folks with a southern accent were called rednecks. Some were accused of wearing burlap under things...

If one needs to ask whether to use a word or not, then maybe it shouldn't be used. Unless you want to make sure that you are offending. Think of a word that really makes you mad. Now suppose someone kept using that word over and over. How would you feel?

Oh and actually the dictionary's version (since I was in there anyway)of Niggard, means covetous and miserly...someone who is stingy. Maybe you should call Websters and set them straight.

you put quotations around "persue"...it looked like you were making a funny. I wanted to laugh with the funy.
You have to try to stop your unilateral attacks of individual people, regardelss of their stances.

I know to back off when the weeping begins...

Now that's funny !!

And I'm with Pammy on the Redneck thing, I thought it implied southern, poor farmers with little to no schooling, out in the sun which is where the redneck term originated ??

I consider myself a redneck on account of I was raised in the south, but I'm not racist at all !! I also thought the "rascist version" was refered to as skin-head !!

And like many others, I'm wondering how this thread went from road rage, to gun etiquete (sp?) to rascism ??
