Hello everyone. I've been lurking around this board for a while and I finally picked up a Buell of my own. I found a nice 97 M2 for under $3k with only 4600 miles! Its not registered, inspected or insured yet but I've been whipping it around the neighborhood. The owner couldnt find the service manual, and I'm pretty new to bikes so I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions or important info on this model. I'm also looking for a backrest for my wife, I took her out and she screamed and clinched on with a death grip for the whole ride. This thing is a blast to ride and I cant wait to get it legal. I have pics but I cant make them small enough to post them here.

Welcome to the Club!
Image software is located within the BadWeb Buells's section.
I personally cannot give you any solid data, but I'm sure another M2 owner on here would be more than happy to.
Get it legal quick before you get into trouble! : )

Congrats on the new bike. My husband's first Buell was a '99 M2. You will find a wealth of information if you go into the Old School Buell section.

Not sure what what models this affects, but the M2 had a recall on the rear shock. If you are unsure if this was done, I think you can have the vin number run and see if it's in the Buell data bank.

Not sure what type of dealers you have in your area, but we have some really great sponsors here on BadWeb. First I'd contact Daves from Appleton HD/Buell for a service manual! Look on the Sponsors section and the "Dave I need it now" thread.

As for the backrest for the M2, what type of seat is currently on the bike? If its the stock one, you wife probably feels like she's going off the back of the bike as several of us M2 passengers have felt. I can only speak to the Corbin seat, but the comfort is better and I didn't feel like I was going to hit the pavement when Carlos took off or shifted gears. We also have the Ventura Bag/Rack on our M2 (Al at American Sport Bike - sponsor section also). This is NOT a backrest, but there is something behind me so I know I'm not going off the back!

Enjoy,
Kristi

Thanks for the welcome and the info. The bike has a corbin seat, I noticed that there is a slot in the back for a backrest to slide into, I saw a few on ebay for a decent price. I also ordered a service manual, I dont even know how to change the oil yet! This is actually my first bike. The only other bikes I've been on were a moped and a lil 250 during the safety course. This one is a beast in comparison. I'm headed over to the old school buell section to see what updates/recalls should be done.

Welcome to the Fold,
One of my fellow riders here rides a New M2, calls it his Ma Duece. Here is the link to the recall matrix and service alerts, your local stealership should be able to tell you which ones have been completed on you sled. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/3842/3607.html

Welcome, My first Buell American Motorcycle was also a 97 M2 Clone. great bikes, miss it too. If I rember corectly the recalls were :swing arm, rear shock, fuell tank vent ,kick stand switch, clamp(rear)fuell tank. Have your local dealer run the vin # and see if any or all were done.

Well I've got it all legal and have been riding just about all day, I Love it! My clutch hand is sore, I've had a hard time finding neutral. I also called in the vin# to check on any open recalls, 2 came up. The brake drive pin(?) and the turn signal flasher. I'm going to do a little research on them to see what needs to be done. Thank you all for your help, this forum seems to be alot more accommodating than some of the others I visit.
