I don't know this man personally, but he is a neighbor to whom I have spoken with briefly on several occasions.

I think he could use some help from above.

He was apparently shot in the back of the head. It's not clear to what extent he may be disabled if he survives at all. He made it through emergency surgery, but the doctors are saying that the next 48 hours are critical for him. He seems to be fighting pretty hard though.

Our Heavenly Father, watch over our brother Reece and his loved ones in this hour of great crisis. May the surgeon's hands be guided by your Own. We humbly beseech Thee, grant Divine Sight to those in care of our brother.

In Jesus' name, Amen.

Update: Reese is in a drug-induced coma for now, but his pupils are reactive. That is a really good sign. There still may be significant brain damage, but he was able to raise an arm on command at one point and he responded to pin pricks. News is sketchy due to third-hand information, but all indications are that he is recovering. I just learned that he was also shot in the hand. They will be looking to see if it can be saved tomorrow.

Keep the prayers coming...

I learned today that Reese was definitely shot twice in the back of the head and once through the hand. He was riding in the passenger seat of the crew cab dually. The shooting happened on the freeway after a stop for gas. The shooters came from behind in a Dodge Neon and fired indiscriminately into the driver's window. The driver was cut by the flying glass, but was otherwise unhurt. Reese was conscious and alert on the way to the hospital. He apparently did lose a finger with the shot to the hand, but it isn't clear how much more damage was done to the hand. Police were called from the truck as they were still rolling, and they closed all roads enroute to KU Medical Center to clear a path. Reese has yet to be able to tell what he saw, but his condition has reportedly been improving with each passing hour. He can breathe on his own, hear and he can wiggle fingers and toes on command. (all encouraging signs). He was speaking while enroute to the hospital, but has not spoken since surgery. The news is saying that he will have to endure a long and extensive rehabilitation. I am sure that with more prayers, he will be fully recovered.

There will be a number of rides and other events in the coming weeks to raise money for his medical expenses. He's a small business owner, so it isn't likely that his medical insurance will cover everything.

Most merciful God,

We thank you for guiding our brother Reese successfully through surgery. It is only through your Divine Providence that he has been delivered into recovery. We ask that you now grant your Sight unto him as he embarks upon this most arduous journey toward rehabilitation. It is your hand by which we live, and so by your hand shall we each be called into your Kingdom.

Our Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy Name.
Thy kingdom come.
Thy will be done, On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever.

Amen.

The police have reported that the incident was completely random and unprovoked. They still have no suspects. Be careful out there folks.

Amen.

Please Father;
Let Reese make a miraculous recovery that stuns the doctors and all who are following this story.

Let the believers rejoice at your mighty work!
Please let the non believers fall to their knees at the new found knowledge of WHO you are, your love, your goodness,

ThankYou for all that you do for us.

WE ASK THIS IN THE NAME OF JESUS THE CHRIST,

AMEN..

That is excellent news. When I read that he had been shot in the head let alone twice, I was not hopeful of a positive outcome.

It is great to see so many supporting a stricken brother with their prayers.

A'men to all the above.

http://www.spikestrikes.com/reece.html is not a sponsor of this site, but has updates of Reece's condition. Things are looking up! - Here is what it says on the update site in case Blake wants to remove the link:

Pray for Reece!!

Update: 9/01/06
Well it's been three weeks....and we feel like Reece is showing some very good signs of improvement this week. Over the last couple of days he has definitely been awake alot more and had his eyes wide open. He recognizes people when they go in to see him as well as subjects that they discuss with him i.e. names of friends & family, his shop, etc. Heath went in a couple of days ago and told him that he was keeping the shop going and that they'd been working on some handle bars and Heath said that Reece opened his eyes wide up and Heath could tell that Reece was comprehending what he was talking about. He will squeeze your hand now when you tell him to. The nurses have asked him to give them a "thumbs up" a few times and he's actually given the a thumbs up. I think they are cute nurses... maybe he's flirting with them!

They started him on some physical therapy yesterday and he is doing some stuff pretty good and other stuff he isn't able to do yet. They asked him to push against them with his leg and he was actually able to do it. He does still have a few blood clots in his legs, but they aren't as concerned about those as they have blocks in to keep them from going anywhere. He does have one in his arm so they are giving him blood thinners.

The doctor told us yesterday that he can tell that Reece is very DETERMINED and if they had to guess...he will walk and talk again. They obviously can't be 100% sure. We are very pleased with his progress this week. It has really boosted our spirits!

Hang with us....we've still got a long road ahead! Have a great & SAFE holiday weekend! THe Good/Murray Family

P.S. Reece's bday is Monday, Sept. 4-- Be sure to say a birthday wish for him!!

Update: 08/30/2006
Reece seems to be gaining a little strength this week. He is opening his eyes a little more and keeping them open for longer periods of time. He is following some movement and is moving his right arm up and down some. On occasion he is squeezing people's hands when they tell him to. He is still "in and out" and isn't fully aware yet. They had been giving him a little sedation medication over the weekend because they said his body was "storming", he was tensing up and his heart would race. They say this is typical in head injury patients and it might go away in 3-4 days or in 2 months. It doesn't happen all the time.

He has been running a fever off and on over the past week or so and they have found a slight infection around an appartus that they have in him to monitor his heart, etc. so they've changed his antibiotics to fight this infection and the fever seems to be subsiding slowly.

He's got a couple of small blood clots in his legs so they have started him on a blood thinner. They still have not operated on his hand and won't be able to do so while he is on the blood thinners.

Many thanks to those that came out to the BBQ & Auction on Sunday. Wow...I can't even put into words all the energy and enthusiasm that was going around that place and not to mention all the hard work of several individuals. Such hopeful and caring people. They are estimating a turn out of 1,500 people and approx. $58,000 raised. Below is a link to a website w/ info. from the event. I think they'll be posting pictures, etc. soon.
