I saw the Exile "RX-Streetfighter" in Sturgis yesterday (it was also in the most recent Discovery Channel "Biker Build-off")... I thought it was rather Buell-ish. What do ya'll think??

Not bad. He's got the "mass centralized" muffler at least. I like his stuff far better than most of the "custom" bikes those shows feature.

Did you catch this statement at the third link:

"The finished bike will cost you $75,000 with the complete kit around $40,000."

YIKES! If I had $75k burning a hole in my pocket I think I'd buy an XBRR engine, have it detuned slightly and put it in a Uly.

BTW, did you see the "Biker Build-off" episode? Mitchell went up against Billy Lane. Billy's usual hand-built custom bizarre gas tank sprung a leak and he rode it that way for several hundred miles before the bike caught fire and burned on the side of the road. Before the fire, he attempted to stop the leak with soap (never heard of that trick before). Don't know why he didn't get a ~$5 tube of epoxy putty MADE for that purpose at any auto parts store.

Did anyone else who watched the show catch that he also used a constant path chain tensioner just like our XB's...?

Yeah--I saw the episode, and was glad to see Russell Mitchell finally win a build-off (ok, he didn't actually "win"--since Billy's bike never made it to the contest). Billy's tank looked like it was rushed--unfinished and obviously flawed (but made for good TV, eh?). BTW, I've used the soap trick a few times myself, but never on a bike (I imagine the heat from the engine would quickly melt the soap).
I've always liked the Exile philosophy (simple bikes--not "Easter Eggs"). I got to see him in Sturgis last year, and he was very friendly, signing autographs and chatting with everyone. http://rap.midco.net/thall72/IMG_4850.JPG
It's funny how the harley riders still wanna know what my bike is ('03 XB9R).
Anybody else been to Sturgis?

Been to Stugis in 1999.... I like the "simple bikes" approach also... But dang, $40,000- $70,000 for a simple bike???

Soap used be a trick with cars and damage from tank straps.....I did it a couple of times.

Far as the bike goes.....seems like a RIP OFF for 70 G's and 40 for a kit....OMG

I think it is butt ugly too.

Anyone got any marshmallows?

Or hot dogs?

I always wanted to have 3 dimensional flames on a bike, but on second thought...

Yes he did another hubless bike, even showed how he did it and the bearings(2) cost 10k each.
I like most of Exiles bike but I didn't really like that one for some reason.
(too stubby?)

I really liked the Exile bike. It just looks like a motorcycle. As far as price - I think it's a bit steep as well but did you check out all the carbon fiber on it? That's gotta be a chunk of change right there.

That exile scoot is nothing more than an FXR-platformed stripper.
aside from the lame rake, it's got nothing on the cool fxr streetfighter which johnnylunchbox posted a shot of, last autumn. THAT streetfighter likely cost under $10k, total.
I find exile's "customs" pretty underwhelming, at best.

75k Think NOT!

Used Confederate Roadster for less than 20k
New zx-14 with mods 15K
New Uly 12,000
and a used H-D tour bike 18,000

Plus insurance and gas for three years -- STILL CHEAPER THAN 75,000

Plus I promise you my X1 gets more attention than that bike would/does. You can see those "types" bike everywhere on difference is a stupid seat and long rear shocks.

Gosh!
A couple of years ago I posted some pictures of Russ Mitchell doing a burnout with a Buell, and everybody posted like he was some kind of tatooed freak.....

As far as customs go....well the simplicity is intriguing

I was hoping this thread was a story about being "exiled" in Sturgis

Oh yeah,
XB12Xcg or low.....thats all
or an XB12Ss with the Ulysses tail section.
either/or, probably less than $20,000

Saw Russell riding the streetfighter last night, out to the venue to introduce the band "Alice in Chains"... cool to see he actually rides it--gotta be more comfortable than the rigid framed bikes you see around here.

Yeah, I feel a bit exiled here in Sturgis--waiting for it to get back to normal!

Tramp, I am suffering the same dilema with the Easy Riders Rodeo in Fowllerville next week end, The Big Kid is bugging me and my daughters uncle-in-law runs the pulling sleds for Easy Riders. This is the week of our annual road trip, and this is the first year for the Little Kid to go with us.

But where else can you go and see a bunch of drunken naked urban wanttobes from the big city act stupid?
