UPDATE ON ME AND BIKE:

took a look at my racebike for the first time since my crash (steve was nice enough to rescue it this past week from the shop where greg hauled it). looks like it should be all bolt-on parts - though quite a few of them : (

all in all, i'm actually very impressed with how well the bike crashed - its got damage and abrasions left, right, top, and bottom - but looks to be completely (and fairly easily) salvageable.

as far as my healing - i'm at 90% or so now. WAY BETTER!

date for starting to drive again - started last week. 5 weeks of cabs and bumming rides wasnt much fun. my jeep is beating me up though - going to try to get an alignment, new shocks/steering stabilizer, and tires rotated to see if that helps.

date for starting to ride again - sometime this week.

date for getting back on racebike - end of august trackday at autobahn.

date for racing again - possibly sept.

have gone through ~90 vicodin (43 the 1st week!), 150 extra strength tylenol, some equally hideous number of advil (bottle wasnt full when i started but it was a 500 count bottle...), 2 tubes of icy hot muscle rub, 3 weeks of physical therapy, 2 massages, 6 doctor visits, 3 rounds of xrays over the last 6 weeks. (today is the 6 week "anniversary")

able to function pretty normally - still have pain when taking super deep breaths, when moving around lying down, and trying to sit up from lying down. still sleeping on the couch - but now able to gingerly sleep on my side.

Keep getting better Dora! Hopefully you'll be 100% again soon. You went through a pretty rough time of it, but I'm glad to hear things are looking up and you'll be back on the track again soon!

Dora - glad to hear you are doing better and have goals set! You are one tough woman. We will continue to follow your recovery. Good thing Advil and Tylenol come in BIG bottles!

Looking forward to reading your achievements as you get back to the track.

Dora,

Are you bidding on eBay as Buellgirlie?

PM me at jacker at midmaine dot com if you want a suggestion on snipe bidding on eBay.

Last time I had rib/back injuries similar to yours I found the perfect place to sleep was in a reclining chair in the reclined position. It was wonderful to get some rest!

Get well!

It's great to hear that you're feeling better.. and going to be riding again soon. Just don't try and come back to quickly, after all, you want to be good and strong before you go racing again..

That said, I am looking forward to the day when I can train my lens on you! So get better and when you're back to racing.. let us know, if possible, I'll stop by and cheer you on a little (in between clicks of the shutter, of course)..

Glad to hear that you are feeling better, I was worried about how this might affect your outlook on the racing scene. You are a trooper though, and I know you will be back at it in no time.

You need a chocolate fountain laced with Advil.

Hang in there and don't push the recovery. It'll come.

Glad to hear the good news there Buellgirlie. Now please send me all your non used painkillers so I can properly "dispose" of them for you (jk). That Jeep isn't the smoooothest riding vehicle there huh? Throws ya for a {{{{{JOLT}}}}} once in a while I would guess.

i definitely batted an eye - i actually laid on my couch and whimpered for about 8 days........!

and on a much more serious note - if youre bidding against me on ebay, stop it! nope, i'm not on there as buellgirlie - have been on ebay since 99 and use a non motorcycle related screenname. youre making me poor

Dora...
there are a few quotes in Faster that may currently apply to you:

top level sportsman (or women) are rarely at 100%

It is impossible to make a rider race if he (she) doesn't want to.
On the other hand, it is incredible what a rider filled with irrational desire can achieve.
The miracle is the riders in their folly.

Keep pushing girl.
We are behind you!

In the riders' veins there are drops of Dionysian madness which are beautiful because they give the heroes of motorcycling the power to live fully.

thanks all. appreciate the encouragement!

no, no autographs - all i did was crash and get back up. i'll entertain the idea once i finish a race in a respectable position! i have, however, given autographs to little kids that think i am the "real" dora the explorer! : )

D

btw - out of 7 ebay auctions that ended today, i only won 1. i was at the airport and on a plane during the ending times : ( oh well, i got a new tail section!!!

o.s. i'm looking for levers, pedals, pegs, bodywork, etc. for an 03XB9R - so if anyone has those parts, i'm happy to buy them from you. i think i've got everything covered for the upcoming repair - but i've exhausted the spare parts bin so i need to restock!

Dora, glad to hear you're doing better and are already thinking about riding again.

Funny how non-riders can't understand a rider's need to get back on after an accident.

Ride safe,

-Ras
