My 03 Xb9S quit running on a back road 6 weeks ago, flat-bedded to the dealer.
Found a bad coil,-- wait for part. Replace coil found the ECM bad. Tell service mgr. the bike has a race kit, make sure he orders right ECM,--- wait for part. Call me tell me bike fixed, Call back and tell me they installed the stock ECM, will order the race ECM.---wait for part.
Exended warranty will not cover race kit.
Meanwhile they tell me tire has a nail in it, need to be replaced.
Headlight lens had melted, Buell says it's NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. I'm stuck for everything.
With the help of Court, Buell agrees to replace ECM and Headlight for flat $100 fee.
Race ECM came in last week. I Called them this morning, bike fixed.
I am happy to report that the bike seems to run really nice. I am very pleased with the Pirelli Scorpion tires that they installed to replace my Metzler M1.
But 6 weeks was way too long to repair something that should only take a couple of hours. I missed some annual rides I paid to take and have always attended.
I need to thank Court again for his help, without which I would be much unhappier.

Congrats! Bet your happy to be back on the road this summer.

I have yet to really understand the relationship between Court and Buell despite lots of reading. I think it is some kind of Obi Wan thing...............

It works though!

Glad to hear that everything ended up ok.

It sucks that you had to go through all that but it seems you made the intelligent decision to be patient with the dealer and now finally everything is back to normal.

I hope that someone at Buell looks at these forums that support the machines they build and realize that we understand and are willing to work with the quarks that go with them but without a revamp of support on the dealer level they can potentially loose some lifelong customers. Off the soapbox now.

Enjoy the rest of the season!

Hate to be negative but maybe it's time to find a different dealer?

Kudos to Court for his advocacy, but it shouldn't take the intercession of a Buell factory insider to get a bike fixed in 6 weeks time. It's notable also that Court and Buell took action in this 6 week kidnapping of a Buell, but not when my Buell was held hostage by a dealer for periods of 2 and 4 weeks. From this I think we can deduce that Buell and the motorcompany consider that a months delay for not so major repairs is "normal".

When HD/Buell repairs take a month and you have a short northern riding season, it's hard to put many miles on the bike... but maybe that's the Motor Company's plan. Unfortunately for HDI the customers have more realistic service standards- my 23 year old BMW with the 'hack is on the parade circuit every weekend. Any repairs (none have been needed) have to be completed in a couple days, not months so the bike is available for the next weekends events.

The Harley mounted Motor Officers I compare notes with at parades are having the same problems we are with HDI's slothenly "service standards". I've seen an Officer wait hours for the scheduled service to be completed on his bike that he had dropped off a week earlier. One of our local departments has switched to a rural dealer that promised "priority servicing", but taking the bike there takes the officer out of service for the better part of a day.

The next step for these agencies will probably be buying a different brand of bike. When HDI looses their most loyal customers, the motor officers, how long can Harley survive?

If I was concerned enough to try to make calculations I'd go for a ride, not to the links Court!

But the sky isn't falling so you can still make your tee time, if you like "hitting a ball with a crooked
stick and then chasing it." (thank you George Carlin!)

How far up is the sky and are we counting in friction into the equation, also what is the mass of the portion and/or whole of the falling sky?

I have a sneaking suspicion I may be doing some riding in the near future. I fear my riding and golf skills have eroded to similar states of disrepair.

I think the riding I can recover...teh golf...well, it's long been an ugly story.

: )

If you are riding this fall, and want some company, let us know. I'm trying to get some time off this fall for a ride. LOVE THE NEW AND IMPROVED BIKE! It's reallly great.

Forget the golf, it's just another four letter word to avoid. Remember, golf is flog backwards.
