Good show, but like 2 wheel tuesday, it seems they try to cram too much stuff into their 30 minute time frame. No complaints though, it beats watching another chopper show or chrome bolt-on makeover. | ||

Toxic - the cool thing about the Dragon is that it is Darwinism at its finest. These guys take themselves out. I was standing at the overlook and talking with a guy that lives in Maryville and rides the Gap daily to get to work in Fontana. He summed the whole ego / squid thing up perfectly - "There is no trophy or prize money to be had down at the Crossroads!". | ||

I know, and I've been there enough to have seen dudes wipe out in front of me. (My quickest time down the gap was running to the crossroads to call an ambulance for a guy that bit it about halfway up.) The problem is, they make it less safe for everyone there. I won't normally ride the Gap on weekends due to the numbers of guys going up there and doing just completely dumb stuff. | ||

I haven't been to the Gap yet but I think you're giving the squids way more credit than is deserved. The squids in this area won't ride out of town, much less pack up and head out of state! | ||

now every squid who didn't know about the gap now does... The Gap hasn't been a secret for 15 or 20 years. That's good thing. Keep the heat on Deals Gap, and leave the rest for us. There's plenty of roads around that area, that are just as technical as the Gap is. Next time you go there, ride up, get your sticker, then explore the area. There are way more roads less traveled that haven't been "outted." Find 'em Enjoy 'em Keep 'em to yourself. I had a head start though, I was born and raised in that area. | ||

I agree with Glitch but will add that at the end of a long tour last weekend, I found myself back at the Gap. I ended up tent camping at the Gap and had a pretty darn good time! Different than camping at the TWO (which was wonderful the night before), but a lot of fun. They have really improved the facilities at the Gap. Best campground showers ever. | ||

It was fun riding the Dragon a couple of weeks ago but I agree, there are a lot of nice roads all through the area. We were able to ride some. I wish we had time to find more! | ||

I know there are a lot of good roads around there, but that particular section of 129 is better maintained than most of the other roads out in the area. When guys go out there and ride beyond their limits, get themselves hurt or killed, it sucks for them and reflects poorly on all motorcyclists. I've spent many a week/weekend up there Glitch, going back next month as a matter of fact, and DO explore. I found out that a good 5 mile stretch of 218 is washboard gravel (made me wish for a Uly.) I see your point. I just don't feel the extra publicity that the Gap gets from this will be all beneficial. (Message edited by toxic on July 21, 2006) | ||

Jimduncan69, Yes indeedy I will be arriving on Sept. 10th and leaving on the 15th. There are two other Badwebbers heading down with me as well as a group of cruisers. I'd love to meet other members there if anybody gets a wild hair and wants to come on down during that time. Plenty of pictures will be provided for those who can't make it  . | ||

skyline is fine with me. half the fun is just being away from daily stress with nothing to worry about but you and your bike. too cool. maybe head down friday night, come back sunday night or monday morning. trailer or ride? how far is it? | ||

mike and rich, i think i might head down to the gap on sep.10th and meet up with luvthemtorts. it would be really cool if you guy's could make it down too. as far as west virginia goes where at in west virginia are you going and when? i will have to see how far that is from me. i would like to make it to both w.virg. and deals gap. it would make for one hell of a good summer! | ||
