F*** the Police.
(read on)

So I have been waiting for three and a half weeks to get my bike serviced at H-D World in OKC. During this time I ordered and have installed a Drummer catch can, American Sport Bike open airbox kit, led signals, and Crossroads handle bars w/ Buell traction grips. I have not ridden in all this time and have been having major withdrawls. So I wake up bright and early to get to my 9:00 a.m. appointment and ride 55 mph on the highway to get there because I know the bike is running lean. When I arrive I change out the ecm and install the Race ecm. I go inside and am notified that Dave (the only mechanic I trust to work on my baby) has called in sick with an ear infection. "Couldn't you have called and told me so I wouldn't have to drive all the way here?".. "Uhh, sorry he just called a few minutes ago." Yeah right.

So I remount my steed and leave. As I am driving up the street from the dealership, the bike begins running terribly and starts stalling out in an intersection so I slighty "whack" the throttle open to try and revive it. I had forgot to change the ECM back to the stock one, so the TPS isn't adjusted. The bike stumbles but picks back up and has a big surge of power. I immeadiately let off the throttle and look up to see a motorcycle cop standing outside a diner next to his motorcycle.

I have not applied any gas since letting off and am cruising down the street letting it idle down. I saw an empty parking lot up ahead and head there to switch the ecm back out. Right before I get there I am blasted with lights and sirens. I pull into the parking lot and the officer pulls up next to me. His helmet is just sitting on his head, strap undone, and his gloves are also undone. He threw them on to come and get me.

I am less than two blocks from the dealerhsip and it's maybe tens minutes after nine. I explain what happened to the officer and since he's a mounted cop I'm thinking things will be all but instead it's all . He says "Picked the wrong day to ride your sportbike, huh?" The bastard gives me a ticket for 51 in a 35, which he had to have pulled out of this a$$. He wasn't even on his f**king bike! I truly do not know how fast I was going as I was primarily concerned with keeping my bike running, and I immeadiately got off the gas when it accelerated.

I have a clean driving record in both my truck on my motorcycle, have taken the MSF course, and would consider myself a safe and attentive rider. I always wear full gear too. I am going to see if Dave (the mechanic) will write a small letter saying that the different ecm and lack of proper service work (tps reset) would have caused the condition that negated me giving the bike gas to keep it running and not die in the middle of an intersection. There was NO ONE around me, so the officer couldn't have down the bullsh*t "I visually judged your speed" crap.

I had taken the day off and was looking forward to riding all afternoon and enjoy my newfound power and riding position. So now I still can't ride and the dealership says they will "try" to work me in when dave comes back in. I am going to unleash hell, fire, and brimstone on them if they try and make me wait another few weeks. OKC has a stupid system where you have to pay the fine before the arraignment date, then plead your case to the judge and they will refund your money if found not guilty. And it's like a $230 dollar ticket and goes on my record!!! don't have that kind of money and as it was I am having shifting problems with the Buell and a clutch cover bolt stripped out so the service manager told me it would be best that I pay them to do the 5000 miles service (which I just did myself less than 1500 miles ago) that way they would fix it under warranty and if there is a major problem with the transmission it will not be an issue. He said is should be less than $200. So now I am going to be out TWICE the money until I can go to court. I must have pissed off kharma or something to have a morning this sh*tty.

Damn police and there "I'm God" attitudes.

Just don't go into court feeling like you do right now! Plead the case and remain level headed, get a lawyer to review your case, just don't go in there with the anger, it will only get worse.

Yeha I know, I'm just venting. You would think that a officer on a Harley Davidson would give a broke college kid a break when I was RIGHT DOWN THE STREET FROM THE DEALERSHIP!! Heck I should have turned around and ridden the block and a half back to the dealership and then pulled over and had the service manager verify what I was saying.

Oh and "F*ck the Police" was performed by NWA whose members are Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, Eazy-E, and MC Ren. Compton in the hizzouse!

That sucks!! I feel for you and have a short story that I think I should share. After work the other night I was driving my partner in business home because he broke his right leg falling off a duc. So this guy in front of me keeps stopping in the middle of the road. After the 3rd time I am getting agro so I lay on the horn for a 1 thousand 1, 1 thousand 2 count. A cop comes flying out of a side street pulls me over and I get the dumbest (is it even a word haha) ticket of my life! Unnessary use of the horn!! HAHAHAHAHAHA! I couldnt stop laughing and my friend dail was in tears also. I interesting think about this is the second I was pulled over both police come up on the car and right away ask for dails id too. Never had that happen before where the passenger is checked out like that. But things have changed here in new orleans and there are a lot of shootings going on......
They even have checkpoints set up all over town now searching peoples car and blocking up traffic for miles. I understand they have a job to do and I am also very good friends with most of the police in my area. But these checkpoints, I dont know guess I should hall down the flag and string up a old russian one. "Papers please?"

Dont you love it though when the police say lines like that? "picked a bad day to ride your sport bike huh?" But police are just people like everyone else. We all know there are aholes in every group including those who ride. Sorry that happened to u. Try not to let in ruin the rest of your day off.

pretty funny to claim Compton from Oklahoma, but I feel ya on this one.

I hate cops, the missus hates cops, and I have trained my children to hate cops. My mom even hates cops. They drive or ride around breaking every law in the book so they can get to the donut shop, but when you don't make a complete stop at a right turn, suddenly you're in and out of court for 3 months fighting it.

Any cops here? Tell me I'm lying. I'll make swiss cheese outta ya. Bunch of glock-toting punks.

Oh and you NWA fans all forgot Yella Boy AKA DJ Yella.

Please don't stereotype police for the actions of a few amongst a larger group. I am beginning my career as a police officer and don't want to be prejudged for the actions of the few jerks. Just like none of you want to be. Thank you....stepping off of the soapbox now.

Pwnzor, Usually I am with you on this one. But lately I have been riding with a couple of CHP's (last week seven) and it is so much fun riding the canyons and not be worried about tickets! I actually feel kinda honored riding with these guys as I am the only "civi" they ride with.

Strange riding with officers from the same agency that busted me for evading in 93 (I was not evading but got railroaded) at speeds equal to or greater than I got busted at.

Weird, really weird.

Last night I was leaving a restaurant and had a police officer tell me through the open widow of his cruiser, "Your tail lights are out". I pulled over and he said to ride carefully if I couldn't get them working. While I was fiddling with them, another police officer pulled up and asked me if everthing was all right. I explained the situation and he left.

I never did get the lights fixed and they let me ride on when they saw me 5 minutes later. I thought that was kinda cool.

I have met more nice officers than the kind described by Nasty. I have probably been pulled over 25 times and only received 4 tickets in my life....and I deserved a ticket all 25 times. The problem that most people don't understand is the Poilce don't like to pull the white sheet out of their trunk because of recklesness, so sometimes they feel the need to be stern or even harsh. How do you think you would feel if you worked as an Officer for many years and had to respond to the amount of needless fatalaties they have to??

People I don't really hate cops but I was just pissed off the by this guy's attitude and the fact that my long-awaited service appointment got screwed up. I know several very nice cops, a couple whom I have drank around since I was underage.

And Pwnzor, I'm not actually claiming Compton, I really a okie who wears cowboy boots everywhere (even have a "club" pair) and happen to like a little rap alongside my country.

As it's been mentioned before, some are nice, some aren't. I've been pulled over unjustly (the officer admitted he didn't clock me on radar or laser, but that I need to slow down - he heard the bike and saw the fast acceleration, not speed).

What I don't like is when I got pulled over a couple weeks ago on an unposted road and was told "the speed limit is set for the entire city, there's a sign at the entrance". I went and looked (a half mile away on a different road) and the sign he referred to says "Begin Speed Limit 25MPH" - it was dropped from a 35MPH zone. Who would assume that was for every road in a city? Shouldn't it say "Within city limits" or "for all roads"?

Later I found out that the police were told they had to write x number of tickets a day...

No wonder I didn't get a warning...

No quotas? Right...

Yep-
I know good cops and I know of bad cops.
The majority I know are at least good guys, and many are great guys.
some of my buddies are cops. I got pulled over by a state trooper this past weekend(rarely very cool at all)...I was going about 60 in a 30. he just rolled up next to me after my prompt pullover and suggested I slow it down a bit, I never had to produce license, etc. I said "sure", and thanked him, he smiled and said "Cool bike...looks like Mad Max" and went about his way.
I haven't been ticketed in over 4 years, and that was 'bad' speeding tag which the officer tossed long before the court date.
so, no ticket. Maybe I'm just lucky, but i get treated really well by the heat.....maybe it's cause I show them some respect while they're doing their job.
I like some modicum of respect when i work, and I'm sure most heat feel the same way.

The chief in my town has always been a hell of a good guy, no ego bullsh*t with him. when i bartended all last summer, No heat ever asked me for a buyback, they all tipped really, REALLY well, and I always made a point of providing an atmosphere where it was understood they didn't have to feel "on-duty" when they wanted to kick back and get plowed. Just kick back, talk bikes (everyone knew who was on-the-job and who wasn't, so there was no wannabe 'donny brasco' bullsh*t going on) with the other fine, hard-riding patrons, and just be fellas, for sh*t's sake.

Many cops do good work at m/c funerals, as well.

I think Tramp hit it on the head. In my story above we started laughing after we were on our way, not in front of the police. I also have been let off when I shouldnt have. You will never win a arguement with the police so I just answer every question with a yes sir no sir. I deal with people all day and I dont want to be treated with a tude either. In fact I am kinda like a mirrior in my job. Speak to me polite and I will be the same. Speak to me with a tude and will get one in return. Customer or not.

Jon's got it.

I don't hate the man, I hate the job. Period.

When I meet people and they tell me they are either a cop or highway patrol, I turn immediately and walk as far away from them as geography will permit. They made their choice, and now I made mine.

And I watch them all day long, breaking laws in their cruisers when they are not "on a call" or in an "emergency situation". Riding their motorcycles down the sidewalk and entrapping motorists on a descending blind curve with radar guns. Don't they have anything better to do?

But these are all converstations for another thread, another day, another lifetime. I just chimed in because Nasty was all frustrated with cops and I was feeding it a little.

When I get pulled over (twice this year) I am polite and cooperative. When I got arrested a few weeks ago, I was polite and cooperative. As I sat in jail waiting for my attorney, I was polite and cooperative. When they took 9 hours to "process me out" and 3 deputies are standing there in plain view watching videos on Ebaum's World and doing some credit card shopping for their kids instead of their jobs, I was polite and cooperative.

When my case is dismissed next Wednesday due to misconduct, illegal search and siezure, and lack of probable cause, I will be polite and cooperative. So far it has cost me $12,500 in cash over the last 3 weeks. I'll never get that money back. I will remain polite and cooperative. If, on the outside chance, we have to put this in front of a jury, I will be completely exonerated by the police video from the very car in which I sat as they tore my life apart. All the while, polite and cooperative.

For you see, I know what I am doing. And I can afford justice. But most people can't afford this kind of justice. They get a public pretender on their case and railroaded into a crowded jail for a while and they never get their property back.

I've been arrested 8 times in my life. I have never been convicted of any crime and never anything other than a parking ticket.

read carefully that part "I have never been convicted of any crime"

So a few weeks ago, when I get pulled over and they haul me out of the car and have helicoptors overhead and my neighbors, (yes it was right in front of my house as everyone is going to work), are all watching as they tear my car apart and then go on up into my house and put my kids and wife out in the street while they ransack the place with no warrant.

Because I had an "arrest record" and was in possession of a firearm. Never mind that the firearm was properly locked with the breech open and the ammunition was not within the same vehicle compartment and none of it was on my person AND I alerted the officer to the presence of the firearm, first words out of my mouth.

Tell me again how I'm lying. Tell me how we are innocent until proven guilty. Tell me anything you want. I don't like cops.

hell yes I'm bitter and YES, the gun was mine and legally registered to me, at the address where I was arrested.

Pwnzor, I have a felony record because of two cops that thought it would be "fun" to screw me over. I was riding way fast and deserved to get a big ticket of arrested. I did not however deserve a felony reckless endangerment charge.

I did have a public defender and that was a huge mistake. I try not to be bitter about it but it is difficult at best sometimes. I nearly got killed in L.A. County when they mis-classified me and lost me for four days with the third strikers awaiting transport to State Prison. I barely got out alive, no joke (I will tell you the whole story someday over a beer).

Despite my own colored past I have learned to take each and every experience I have with an officer as a fresh new deal. They can feel if you got issues with them and then they whomp you. Most will leave you be if you have good gear and the right "feel".

I try to take every cop on his or her own merit. I really do know a couple of cool guys that are also cops.

As for speeding around on or off duty? I can tell you I have seen an LEO doing 185 on a public highway (granted in middle of nowhere). The same LEO refuses to pass on ANY double yellow.

I asked him how he can justify giving somone a speeding ticket, he replied "I don't give speeding tickets". I said "yeah right, your a chippy you would not have a job if you did not write speeding tickets".

To which he replied "Well I do use speed to determine how big the ticket is going to be but I only write two kinds of tickets, Stupid and . At any given moment I can look around and find a stupid that needs a ticket".

He also does not like poser squids with no gear on. I can only guess he spends a fair bit of time trying to give them enough tickets they lose their license before their lives.....................

It goes down easier when I just call them "High-Speed Road Use Taxes." Actually haven't had one in a while. Hope I am not due, it's seems less noticeable when you aren't the fastest one out there, let the other guy take that position. It's all relative said Einstein, right?

Your misgivings with the Police seem to be of your own choice. Why else would you have contact with them on such a grand scale? Helicopters and illegal searches? Seems to be a very small part of the picture being painted here. Either way I find it amusing that you would walk away from someone due to their profession. Do you do the same thing depending on race or religion?

Pwnzor,

entrapping motorists on a descending blind curve with radar guns. Don't they have anything better to do?

I have always hated this excuse and never used it for my on personal gain when being pulled over. You know why? You shouldn't have been speeding to begin with. It is a risk everyone takes and the negative side of that risk is injury/death/citation or any combination of the three. I have alot of respect for you on this forum and I would hope if we ever met you wouldn't automatically walk away from me just because I am a Poilce Officer. Skyguy, I stopped giving that benefit of the doubt a long time ago. Like six arrests back...

I've been to LACJ so many times its friggin ridiculous. Went to OCJ just this last time, because I just moved to Orange County. Every single time I have been arrested... case dismissed or not guilty. Wonder why that is? The legal system is tore up from the floor up. Thank God I am such good friends with bail bondsmen, bounty hunters and lawyers.

Don't worry about me, the DA's case is in shambles and it's all going to blow over. In the end it will have been expensive and inconvenient. To get back on track, it's similar wherever I go. I get the same attitude from cops no matter what. I'm always polite and, you guessed it, cooperative.

aaaaaaaaaaaaannnnnndddd you won't hear me complaining about these 'surprising' arrests....
