Guys, My riding style is rather sporty, but most of my riding is traveling... I'm seriously thinking of a sportster 1200R (new, rubber mounted of course)instead of Buell. Anybody has experience with both? | ||

Not a bunch of miles on the new Sportster. But what I did notice was they handle like a pig, and they feel heavy, and underpowered. my 2˘ | ||

i sold my sporty when i bought the buell cuz it was in my shed for 2 years and no new miles. mjust sat there. it did nothing for me like the xb does. the xb = big a$$ grin all day long..sporties - they are not that cumfy on long rides either. just my .00001 | ||

Yesterday, I went to a 2nd hand dealer who had an XB12R.... I sat on it, didn't ride it.... I would love to own it as a second fun-bike... but not as my main bike (I don't own a car) Anyway,n the price was still too high The Uly is probably the best choice as an all-rounder, but it's just too ugly (well...for me) The lightning long is maybe a good alternative... would you think it works for the pillion? | ||

Sounds like somebody needs to do a few demo rides. Sportster= slow, heavy, ruff on a bumpy road. XB=FUN! Lightning Long is a good suggestion. Also look at ULY XB12X if you are tall enuf. I havent owned a 1200, but I know the 883 sux. I would have rather had a blast! | ||

If you really want a Harley rather than a Buell and you plan on doing alot of sporty traveling, I wouldn't recommend a Sportster. Have you looked at the 06 Dyna SuperGlide at all ? They have a 6 speed transmission, 1450cc/88 cubic inch powerplant and best of all are the lowest priced Big Twin, oh yeah and sportiest also. I used to have an 05 (no 6 speed), with a ThunderHeader pipe on it and I loved that bike. For a heavy bike that thing sure did handle good, sounded great and had plenty of get up and go! I sure do miss that thing. Whatever you decide on, have fun! | ||

I want a bike that provides me great satisfaction without having to ride fast... Buell XB - loads of fun without ever having to exceed 160 km/h. You really should go for a test ride  A 'good' ride is one you can walk away from. A 'great' ride is one you can walk away from and use the bike again. | ||

I've ridden a XB12 S once... But that was when I was still rather new to motorcycling .... and riding a 4 cylinder Suzuki bandit 600S I remember trembling even a half hour later.... Fear... fun... i can't remember.. It's just that the sportster looks good and comfy.... and will maybe calm me ... rather than excite me and burn the speeding limits | ||

Go look at your profile again, the answers you seek, you have already written! I know where there is a REALLY good deal on an 05 Sportster, got all the performance upgrades already plus luggage. Only problem might be shipping it to your location. | ||

Own both an 05 883 and a 03 Lightning. Buell has 25,000 miles on it, the Sporty 6100 miles. The Sportster is NOT a good long distance bike. Even with the rubber mounting, it's no where near as comfortable as my XB. | ||

I'd like to get a solidmount and make it scary fast. I knew a guy in college who rode an XLX-1000 iron head 4-speed and it looked like lots of fun. He ate it big time in North Georgia trying to make it handle and bent the frame. This was way back in 1981... | ||

Have you thought about a City Cross..it's almost like a mini version of the Uly...not as roomy on the seat, for 2 people..but I bet you could find or have a seat customized for better 2-up-ness..they handle incredibly well, are an absolute riot to ride..the grin will probably make your face ache..and it won't provoke you to speed unless you feel like it, and the are EXTREMELY comfortable for everyday riding..city especially. | ||

I'm going to assume that you haven't put many miles on a Sporty if you think it looks comfy. The suspension is quite jarring. Buells really are more comfortable for any distance. I would second the notion of getting the SuperGlide over the Sportster. The '06 is fantastic! The new frame and suspension made it a completely different bike. | ||

Anybody has experience with both? Yes, I have both. I use the Sporty for distance. I've ridden it to 31 states including Alaska, Canada, and Mexico, Pushing 47,000 miles on it. My Buell has only been as far as South Dakota., pushing 23,000 miles on it. the Sportster is NOT a good long distance bike. Speak for yourself!  With the exception of a 188 mile maximum range, it does just fine. I've done 4000+ miles in less than a week, a bunch of 700+ mile days, and one 1000 mile day. Of course YMMV  | ||

I own a Sportster 883 and a XB9S, I love them both. The 883 is like a 57 Chevy and the XB is closer to a new Corvette. You can't compare the two because they are completely different.  | ||

I have ridden an 01 rubber engine mount 1200 sportster and found it quite comfortable for a couple of hours riding just like my xb12ss. I also found that I rode the sportster slower, just like you are looking for, because it does not handle near as well, or at least not as easily. It still feels plenty strong in the straights to be fun though. | ||

The new sportster look good, and I believe are a little bigger than before. Looks that way anyway. Larger tank, etc. rubber mounts. I would think it would be good. nice cruising touring bike. with the deal of $99 a month, or $125 a month for a 1200, sounds good. wish triumph would run a special on their bonneville t 100 for 99 bucks a month. You would see one in my garage. fits perfect. rex |
