Diablo has a good point about the 25th aniversery next year. If I were BMC I would be planing something rather awesome for next year. After all does it make any sense to release a new bike EVERY year?

We should be talking about that. Should be grand.

I still think we'll see the ZTL2... If that's IT I'll be fine ;).

A long Firebolt would be a logical and easy next thing. Pair that with some nice new hard bags & GPS mount - nice touring bike.

'Twould be nice, wouldn't it? I'd certainly have to figure out a way to put one in the fleet. But sadly, I really believe that the power that be sees the Ulysses as the S3-T replacement.

Maybe in the '07 brochure the Ulysses section will have a sign like those at amusement parks. You know, like the signs:

You must be this tall to ride this ride.

except it should say:
Your inseam must be this high in order to ride our adventure-tourer.

Don't worry Brankin. I predict that Buell will introduce Buell Branded Platform Boots at the dealer meeting.

Is a 6 speed transmission really better anyway? I'll grant you that 6 is a higher number than 5. That's tough to dispute. But what difference does it really make? If a higher number is intrinsically better, then why aren't we clamoring for a 7 speed?

I had a dream last night "literally" that it was an XBT. It was quite nice looking. Maroon with a black frame and wheels... It was sort of a cross between XB lines and S2 lines with aerodynamic looking hard bags...

And a six speed for cruising...

Sanchez, the six speed allows you more selection in gear ratios, at least if the top gear is still 1:1.
This is a very good thing for driving out of corners on the track, or in the canyons.

If the 6th gear is an overdrive gear you can increase fuel mileage, and speed if you have the HP, on the
rare occasion that a Buell rider is droning the super-slab.

As far as it goes though, there is such a thing as too much, and in a given gearcase size you are limited
by the width (and therefor strength) of each gear. They still have to be able to handle the full load.

FWIW I too had heard that noise regs were a major reason for the lack of a 6 speed in the Buells.

Does anyone else regularly skip gears? If I'm having fun, I'll do 1-2-5 when pulling out on the freeway. And when I'm downshifting I usually go from 5th to 3rd. 4th generally just seems a redundant gear. Of course it's nice in the mountains.

Yes, it's possible as long as you match revs to the gear you've selected, or upshift too far and lug the motor.

I usually only do that sort of thing when stopping quickly, and can't hit each gear on the way down.

It looks like we didn't get the ZTL2 this year after all...<sigh>

I find the uly a little tall for my tastes,
after a sit on, I have yet to ride one

me If I had the coin I would get a LL, and adapt it to my desires, for a LD tourer.

Jim,

You're starting to shift like an old man. My friends and I used to laugh about how our dads would shift cars when we were teenagers. "Three on the tree" and they generally considered 2nd gear as "optional".

Whodom - We are both probably older than your dad was when he was doing that.

vaneo1 - I've done it so much I don't really know what to elaborate on. Try it and see if you like it?
