Can someone explain to me what a race module does and what are the benefits? |

it gets bolted right where your stock module was, and it makes you go faster |

You should get an aftermarket pipe and a race filter as well, if you want to get all the benefits of the race ecm. |

Save your dough as the Buell race ignition basically just gives you a higher rev-limit and a different timing curve. If you are adamant on changing ignition there are a slew of aftermarket ones that have a range of adjustments that are plug-n-play also. Crane,Dyna, etc. Spend it on better breathing--carb rejet,K&N,good pipe, and a good dyno tune. |

Actually, not even raise the rev limit. I have one coming in, that I ordered by mistake, what's a good price for me to get rid of it? I have a '01, the module is different. |

If the race ignition makes any difference, I'm not sure I can feel it. The money is better spent on an airfilter of your choice and a proper rejetting. |

No significant benefit to the race module for a carbureted Buell. Just a slight difference in timing at high revs. Stick with stock. |

you will not feel any difference with the race module on the M2 -- save yer dough, go to a track day, buy some more gas, buy better tires . . . . . . . |

I believe, ( please correct me someone if I'm wrong ) that the differences in modules are.... 1. The race box has a hard stop at 6800 rpm. The stocker retards ignition, then shuts down at 6800. ( thats right no change in redline ) 2. The race box has more advance in the latter part of the rpm band than the stocker, giving the same power as a stocker low but more high, unless you re- time the stocker to the same point, then the stocker loses at the bottom. Just a wee bit. http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/3842/10398.html?1059591514 I base comment #1 on something I heard, somewhere, and the way the bike behaves with the different boxes. On My 2001 M2, the speedo needle slows down it's climb over 120, it's still climbing, but slower. Both boxes top me out at 132-135 indicated. The stock one seems to stutter it's way up that last bit, & the race one just goes then stops. Am I imagining this? In either event, I have a race kit for the 1999-200 M2 on order from e-bay. I already have the 2001-2002 box, ( I got it when I heard they were to be discontinued ) so I MAY have a 1999-2000 box to get rid of, IF what comes is what I hope I ordered. I thought the 2000 pipe & aircleaner will fit the 2001. ( Fingers crossed, prays ) If I'm wrong on that, will some one tell me & I'll take the ribbing as an E-bay idiot |

Chris, IMHO the best thing you can do for power & rideability, is to change intake filter setups, re route the head breathers , & rejet carb. For carb jetting, look in the knowledge vault. The idle jet change is the most dramatic in terms of bang for the $. Warm up & idle will improve. A Lot. If it has not been done, & you do nothing else, do this. For breather stuff, check the knowledge vault. There are lot's of ideas in there, and most work. Routing the spooge out of the carb, into a catch can or filter, is good for 1-2 hp. & will make your engine run cleaner. Also, if you have a problem, with the breathers routed into the carb it runs down your leg. ( I favor catch can, but some others don't ) Airbox mods range from simple K&N filter replacement, 2 different kinds of "gutting" the box, The Buell Race "hamcan", ( probably the best option ) Forcewinder intake ( the one that looks like a bent pipe w/conical filter on end ) & other aftermarket filter setups. ( IMHO none work as well as the first choices) The 2 kinds of "gutted" box are, 1. remove the Helmholtz tube & filter housing, add venturi to carb & brace to hold filter. ( that's the way I do it ) 2. Remove filter & housing, plug holes in Helmholtz tube, add conical K&N filter to tube, making an internal tuned setup. Others have done this & swear by it. |
