I've been looking at buying a 2000 RSV Mille. Just wondering if any of you have had any experience with them or heard anything about them. Everything I've read so far has been positive. Owners of them seem to like them a lot. The bike I'm looking at is at:

Thanks,

Matt,
They are truely wonderful bikes for what they are. If you spend a lot of time on the track they are great bike for that. No so good for a daily rider though. Loads of power, geared kind of high for street use, for me any how. What are you going to do with it, will tell how happy you are with it. I wouldn't recomend it for your only bike, but if you can keep your bike AND have the Mille, you'll probably be very happy.

dealer network is supposed to be somewhat like buells - some good, some bad.

also, there seem to be issues with supply - while shopping for my current ride, I wanted to try either the Caponord, or Pegaso 650 - dealer informed me Aprilia aren't importing into canada this year, and not sure about next year, due to manufacturer issues. ( from his description, a merger / corporate buyout is in progress, future imports TBD??)

great looking bikes though, and the owners I've met swear by them

My friend has an 05 Factory R. 220 miles around the Yorkshire Dales a few weekends ago didn't have him complaining any. Quite the opposite actually, and those roads are trying at times.

I have a 02 Mille R.
Nice bike, doesn't handle as well as my Firebolt demo.
I don't even take mine to the track anymore.
I am much faster on the Buell.
The Mille is faster in the straight away but slower everywhere else.

I just got done changing the oil on it,what a pain in the arse!
You have to take ALL the lower body work off it,balance it with one hand while you put the kickstand up and then remove the bottom section, what fun. All the while trying not to scratch anything.

It is a cool bike though, different, not too bad on longer rides(I ride it 300 miles home and then 300 miles back to work) only gets about 35 MPG.
All in all I prefer the XB12R

PS,
6100 is plenty for a 00 regular Mille
It does have some extras and low miles but still?
I paid more than any Aprilia dealer would pay for the 02 I have and I got my 02 "R" for less than 2000 more than that one. It had 6200 miles on it and that was a year ago. 2 years newer,a year ago and the Mille R model.
Just makes that one seem a little high?

Good looking bike though.

The Aprilia would be bike number 2. I don't think I could ever get rid of my 9s. I looked at getting a firebolt and putting full bodywork on it but I think I'd like something different. If I were getting rid of the lightning I'd look for a bolt. Also 6200 is about the best price I've seen, at least on cycletrader.com. There is an '01 for 7500 and any newer they go above 9000 and I don't have that much to spend. I'd look at a Duc but I don't want to deal with the maintenance costs and I don't want to look at a jap bike because of the fear of getting one that was ridden by some stunter want a be. I figured that Aprilia was a good choice, the possibility of buying one from a knucklehead that doesn't know how to ride is pretty small.

The Aprilia dealer network is NOTHING like Buell's. As bad as some Buell dealers can be, at least the factory gives a hoot, and parts are available.

The Aprilia network is completely screwed up. Parts can take weeks or months to come from Italy. The factory is coming out of Bankruptcy, the US distributor has just moved to New York from Atlanta, they are totally fubared.

I have no experience with the Mille, but I can tell you there was no happier day than the day I traded my CapoNord. Currently there is a recall on the CapoNord, seems they have a small issue with leaking fuel, catching fire etc. The recall was reported to the NHTSA in December. Do you think any Dealer or owner has been notified? Maybe parts are available? Not a chance.

The Caponord was a brilliant opportunity to combine Italian style with Japanese reliability. In a truly inspired move Aprilia instead went with Italian reliability and Japanese style. Dull, soulless and unreliable. The complete opposite of Buell.

Can you tell the CapoNord left me with a bad taste about Aprilia
