I am thinking of making an Autocom purchase (for myself as well) some customers are asking me for the unit and for my opinion on them. I have never used any type of communication on a bike so I am a bit lost. I have read good things about them but have no real life experience. My friend Steve Mullens at nightrider.com has an interesting write up on one of the systems, but I would like to get more input.

i have never used any of the communication stuff yet. but now that my GF will be riding along side me i will be purchasing the autocom system for us.

i did do a lot of research. from what i've gathered about the only way to do better than the autocom is to spend a lot more money. lesser systems will have static and wind noise.

there are a few people on here that have the autocom. so far i think they are all happy. some have other systems that work ok. i haven't heard of anyone that is satisfied with there chatterbox.

as well as getting a good quality headset. don't skimp on the receiver. that has a big effect on how well your system will work, effecting both range and quality of sound.

I have the Autocom Pro 7. Mostly use it to pipe sounds into my helmet...XM radio, radar detector, and GPS. I have used it a couple of times as rider to passenger intercom with my wife on the back. Being able to talk to each other while going down the road, is very cool! It works very well doing that too. I have not regretted the purchase and would buy another Autocom system in the future if for some reason I needed a second. I think a lot of people get turned off from ordering a system because they are so flexible in their use, that configuring a system to order can be tedious .

Thanks guys. I am thinking of purchasing a few(to get a better price break) and would like to be confident that they will sell. Of course I am opposed to selling crap so I need to be sure they are good quality.

Of course I am taking a bike trip next week and am concerned the time that it takes to set one up(for my benefit anyway).

Set up was pretty quick. Mine and all the cables (lots of cables) are bundled up in my tank bag. I did hard wire mine to bike power, with a disconnect, but the model I have has the option to run off of a 9 volt battery. If you run off any sound (music, two-way radio..etc) sources off of bike power be sure to look at Autocom parts 56, 57, & 58. They are ground loop isolators or something like that electrical gizzmos.

I've had an AutoComm for about 7 or 8 years. No complaints from either me or my wife...

I have one. Good quality product, and the new models are supposed to have volume control as well(wish mine did).

I would buy another if, for some reason, I should need it.

The one I have in mind is the Pro AVi. I thought I could mount it under the seat(away from the weather). I was concerned about the wiring pathways for all the peripherials, though(XM, Cell, Ipod, Transceiver). Obviously, I don't really want my cell under the seat. Do you guys have pics of how you mounted your units?

I am happy to hear that folks are happy with it enough to possibly purchase another. I may order a few. I really appreciate your input. Very helpful. Thanks

I keep mine in the tank bag with the cd player and use a 9volt battery to power it. I don't use it much, but it hasn't let me down yet.

I bought it new on Ebay from a small time "dealer", and ordered a couple of accessory cords with it. I believe he had a stock of units, but drop shipped the accessories. He was a real nice guy, and I know he was "small time" because when I called the number he gave me, his wife answered the phone and said "would you mind holding a minute, he's out in the garage working on his bike".

Sorry for the rant, but, there are lots of accessories and different cords/adapters available for different phones/2-way radios/music devices/CB's/GPS's/ etc. which you may want to get familiar with if you plan to sell these(I'm sure you have seen all the stuff on the website).

..and good luck to ya'.
