I posted this in the Shoot-out Thread, but did not want to change that subject. As a result of the weekend’s work and what we saw, I did spend some time on the phone with DynoJet Tech Support about how "Friendly" the Silver Eagle H-D Buell Dyno was. We discussed how the calibration was accomplished and what would affect changes in reading over two or three years. When they learned that I had installed Win Pep 7 to replace the older software, I was told that was why the HP readings were a little high (.5 to 1.5 hp). They assured me that because the entire test was done on the same Dyno over two days with the same operator the test was valid. The upgraded software I installed was calibrated for our Dyno here in Vallejo CA. It seems that the while the Dyno drum mass is very close on all DJ 250's the software is in fact calibrated for each. Even here in my own "Box" I have seen some changes over the last year and now understand that the data "Stack" is the common problem. It seems that the weather station inside has a small battery and several sensors that can become out of tolerance. I also discussed with them the issue of always using the SAE correction standard. A good example of this is where my ULY makes 100 SAE HP at the rear wheel. If I display the run and change it from SAE to Uncorrected it will gain several more HP. So when looking at runs look at the correction factor in the upper RH corner of the plot. … Hope this explains a few issues and how these Noisy Boxes work. … Terry

Hey Terry,

Missed you at the last ASBN meeting...or maybe you weren't there. Drop in next Monday if you can.

Cheers!

Thanks for your work Terry. I'm sure there are a number of good pipes that were exposed/verified/etc last weekend. Thanks again.

Good on ya Terry!
Thanks for taking your time to figure this out and let us in on what you've found.
For this reason, I don't really pay that much attention to the numbers, but more the curves.
Is the HP a steady climb up to red line?
Does the torque curve climb fast and stay nice and flat?
Are there any dips in either curve?
The dyno at SMHD&Buell is not very friendly.
The dyno at Custom Chrome is.
Between the two there is about a 10HP difference.
But both show the same HP and Torque curve.
Dynos are more for tuning than shoot outs, but if you can get a bunch of bikes, pipes, and dedicated people together at one place at one time a shoot out can be successful.
We all thank everyone involved in gathering all the things necessary to pull this off, it was a great undertaking.
