I'm relocating to Tucson in a couple of weeks, and I can't find anything on the state web site about vehicle inspections. I'm not worried about bringing in the cars from out of state, as they're stock, but the bikes aren't. My 2001 Cyclone has the usual mods (aircleaner, rejet, V&H), but the 2000 cafe Sportster was built with little regard for passing tests. Any AZ folk know about inspections? Do I have to drag my stock M2 exhaust along to pass? What about noise? The Sporty has a Thunderheader, which isn't exactly mellow. Thanks in advance! | ||

The physical inspection isn't much, they check the engine and frame numbers and run an NCIC check to see if they've ever been reported stolen. Since your moving to Tucson, you needn't worry about emissions. I've titled bikes in both Phoenix and Tucson. It's no big deal. They don't even start them up, so your pipes are safe the way they are. Just make sure your documents are in order, and all the numbers match. check out the AZ Buellers thread in the storm fronts, there are a few Buellers in Tucson, although most live in the Phoenix area. there are some great roads around Tucson, first being the road up to Mount Lemmon north of town. I liked riding out "old spanish trail" out on the east side of town. Another good road is heading south towards Patagonia. Ping me if you have any other questions, I lived in Tucson 3 years, and in Phoenix for 7 before moving back to New Mexico. I can tell you of many more fun roads to ride! Bart | ||

Just moved there from california....my buells would not pass emissions. I took it to a shop, and they detuned them to pass emissions. afterwards, they put them back to where they need to be. the s2 was stock, but still did not pass. the m2 has a mikuni, race ignition, vance and hines, thunderstorm heads and pistons, etc. both have now passed. the physical inspection was not much..make sure the frame has the necessary stickers, in addition to the frame and engine numbers matching. they almost didn't okay the S2 since she could not find the sticker on the frame. the s2 serial number is different on the bike than they show. they were showing it as a new bike. I had to convince them it was truly a 95 model, and not a 2005. Bad serial numbers in the old days, from what I heard.....rex | ||

REX, There were a group of S2's that had an "S" where a "5" should have been. When that is run through the computer, with the "S" it comes up as a 2005 S3. I had the same problem when I transfered the title on my 3rd S2. Of course, there is no such thing as an '05 Buell S3. There is a kit that you can get by calling Buell customer service that will give you a new metal plate that will pop rivit onto your frame where the old one is. Try emailing Court, he can fill you in with the details much better than I. |
