Just got this in my email: http://www.buell.com/en_us/mania/commercial.asp Commercial looks great, but could someone please tell me why the Firebolt that rides by in the opening scene sounds like an inline-4!?!?! |

I loved it, it REALLY plays to the strengths I see in the brand. Had I not heard of Buell, it sure as hell would have gotten my undivided attention. And it sounds just like an XB9 in it's "tach happy place" to me |

It was a stock exhaust, so you didn't hear the exhaust note. What you heard was the rider's flatulence...you see, he was just coming from Roberto's Taco shop and REALLY needed to get to a rest stop! |

Yeah, why did it sound like an I4 in the fly by? Otherwise it looks cool. |

That initial sound byte was definitely dubbed from an IL4. I sure hope they fix that before loosing it upon the general public. Good grief Bill, if your Buell really sounds like that, it has some serious issues. |

That initial sound byte was definitely dubbed from an IL4. Not according to an anonymous post at this thread: http://www.badweatherbikers.com/buell/messages/32777/183976.html?1143060355 He says it's an XB9 with stock exhaust at high RPM. |

TV Commercial? Is it actually on TV, anyone seen it? Speed Channel on Tuesdays maybe? If someone knows when and where it will be on let us know. |

Neener neener neener! (and indeed, I did go back to stock exhaust on my nine). I listened again... thats what mine sounds like (though I know when it sounds that way, I will be soon be bouncing off the rev limiter). All you tuber and XB12 folks need to take a ride on a bike that has some rev's to it! |

Ditto. I've spent a decent amount of time exploring the extra ~700rpm offered by the XB9, I've never heard it sound like that. As a matter of fact, I distinctly remember the first few times I took an XB9 to the rev limiter- I thought it sounded like a muffled stock car. Contrast this sound clip with the one from he "mine" commercial featuring an XB12- they're not even close. |

It didn't sound like an IL4 either... Maybe it was a triple? No really... It sounded like a nine at high RPMs/speed being driven by a stationary mic and then played with to get the sound bite to the right length for the clip... |

Just to add more . . . There's another sound clip at the end of the video when they show an XB12R ride by. This clip sounds like it has a lot added to it, but I could believe that the base sound came from an XB9. However, the more I listen to the opening clip the more I'm convinced that it's an I4 with an aftermarket pipe. |

I was supprised I didn't see a patent on the Idler pulley. Perhaps they didn't get one? In any event, when I saw what the function of that pulley was explained in Fuell, my thoughts bounced back and forth between "they are genuisses," and "why didn't someone do this 80 years ago." |

I've spent a decent amount of time exploring the extra ~700rpm offered by the XB9, I've never heard it sound like that. yeah, but we're also sitting above the airbox - which puts off quite a bit of noise of its' own. we don't get to hear our bikes from ground level drive-by. just sayin... |

I also run an open airbox with my stock exhaust, which actually adds quite a bit of loudness. It's 27 degrees (ok) and the roads are covered with salt right now (not worth the headaches), so I can't do it today... but I will make a video and sound clip of my 9 near redline going by with my little disposable CVS camcorder and get that posted. Should be easy enough to compare. |

A quick search turned up 60 patents for Buell. I wonder why they only mentioned 3. |

A quick search turned up 60 patents for Buell. I wonder why they only mentioned 3. A large number of them are from previous models. They go back as far as the bodywork for the RR1000. Not to mention the Paramount bicycle suspension |

And a bunch of Buell patents are not for the Buell we know. Have little to do with Erik. |

Having been present at the production of this commercial, I can guarantee you guys that the sound is in fact from a stock Buell. Scout's honor! We captured a lot of audio and landed on the selected clip for multiple reasons, one of which was because it captured the sound of our bike at very, very high revs. The film it was matched up to (the blow-by) looks and feels very fast and we wanted the sound to communicate the same. Glad you guys enjoyed it. |

We didn't mention more patents because we didn't have enough money for a longer commercial! What would be really cool is if Discovery or someone did a half hour show on the Buell technology. Couldn't we have just one show to balance out OCC, and Texas Hangnails???! |
