Just finished making my first actual thing on a recently acquired mini metal lathe, a nice little live center...
(It's a shame I have been spoiled working at a machine shop with primarily cnc equipment) |

Looks like to much fun! What mini lathe do you have? |

Yes indeed, its the Unimat 3 (the only thing that is somewhat annoying about it is the 80% duty cycle). Its way too much fun, I have a hard time not spending too much time around it. I think my next project shall be to convert my proxxon micro-drill-press into a milling attachment for the lathe. the trick will be machining the casting for the z-feed without a mill. Well then I was also thinking of making some axle sliders. hmm, the possibilities... |

I was doing a little research and I think I am going to convert the little emco into a cnc lathe and mill... It is just too tempting now that I have discovered the Mach program, not to mention that most of my stuff is already in CAD so I would be able to mill complex parts with ease... as well as ideally my accuracy will jump to about .001 mm compared to the current .03 mm. Which should make miniature engine prototyping much easier... |
