I rarely ride at night anyways. Poor night vision! The Alter Ego does have a nice reflective strip on the back of it though. |

I currently wear an AGV helmet, but after some long discussions at a motorcycle show I attended recently, my next lid will likely be a Shark. Beyond that, JR Blaster leather pants and perforated jacket, gloves, boots. I have some Draggin Jeans, but seldom wear them (they don't offer near the protection of leathers). I have a JR Ballistic textile jacket I wear in poor weather (bright yellow/black, like a bumble bee!). |

Bomber; please post a review of that C2. I'm tempted, although the Fireman's experience with flip-fronts scare me a bit. Henrik |

Henrik, Schuberth has a web site that describes their helmets. I started out with a C2, gotta love the built in dark shield, made the mistake of trying on the S1, bigger dark shield same great fit. Same price point as Shoei X11 or Arai RX7 but not "ME TOO". Meets more stringent Euro standards as well. I usually use the C2 for casual riding and the S1 for everything else. (All the other flip fronts seem cheesy compared to the Schuberth, but compare them yourself, the others are at a lower price point as well, I believe you'll see the difference too.) |

Thanks Al. Their site is nice, but a bit more explanation would be nice. Such as a thorough explanation of the chin bar latch system, including how they may have tested the latching. I've been looking at flip-front helmets for some years, but have been hesitant because of the chin bar being mostly unknown territory. SNELL for instance claims to have never tested a flip-front helmet, because none of the manufacturers have submitted a helmet model for testing. I find that a bit scary. However, the convenience of the flip-front is still tempting. Henrik |

Henrik, if you look at the Schuberth in person you'll see a feature I don't believe any other flip front has, a set of red bars in the flip portion that show each side is locked into place when closed. I have snapped the chin bar down before and heard the latch snap closed and one of the red bars wasn't down, pulling down on that side resulted in a second "snap" and the bar was recessed into the chin bar. It shows you for sure that both sides of the chin bar are locked into place. The Schuberts also vent air better than any any helmets I have worn (you can actually feel the air move through) and because of the way the chin curtain and neck roll fit they are the warmest on cold days too. It was 28 when I rode to work last week. Hey, that's too cold for Florida. Al |
