>>>Ms Armstrong said that Mr Cheney was a "very safe sportsman".

Whew. . . that's good to know.

In all seriousity, there is an element, I'm sure to all hunters, of "there, but for the Grace of God, go I".

I recall two quite vivid times when I was tracking on a bird and turned to see a pals head in my field of fire.

Pal in high school lost his Father when he and a hunting mate were getting in a pick-up. Guy went to put a loaded 12ga in a window rack, discharged getting Rob's dad as he was entering the passenger side.

I would MUCH rather be shot by a safe sportsman than an usafe one -- we are in agreement once again, Court

agreed, though -- there is a very serious responsibility one takes when one handles a loaded firearm -- I'm very glad they were hunting bird, and not deer

The one thing my father repeats about handling weapons. Identify your target before shotting.

There's not much time to look around and make sure you're safe when a covey gets up--that's why quail hunters should try to stay close together in the field.

The safety orange helps. So does a gaudy-colored shotgun!

Still, stuff happens. Good thing it's only bird shot, and no damage to the gentleman's eyes.

Sometimes the S Tx sunset makes it all worthwhile!

So hunting with Cheney sounds like it is almost as bad as being a spectator when Agnew or Ford went golfing.

true enough -- ANYONE getting shot in a hunting accident is wrong -- regardless of anyone's political views --

It's the secret to my quail hunting success!

The birds get up, they see my gun and, while they're doing the inevitable double-take, I pop 'em!

Threatening our Vice President on this forum?

That is one of the quickest ways to lose your posting privileges on BadWeB. If I or any other patriotic American ever saw that you or anyone else were intending to shoot Vice President Cheney or any other member of our government, your luck would run out in a hurry. Take that to the bank.

Be sure, if you regain posting privilges, to let us all know how your experience with the secret service goes.

Yeah......let's be kind of careful not to let our silliness bite us in the arse.

As good fortune has it, no one was seriously injured but we need to be careful what we put here lest it be misconstrued.

I can tell you that this type of comment (I just had 3 guys at my door : ) ) can be taken the wrong way and result in lots of paperwork.

By the way . . an angered Italian wife is much more dangerous than 3 nice young men with weapons.

: )

Watched the press briefing today, a reporter asked the presidents press secretary if it would have been worse if the man had died. How do these people get in there?? Did stop the press secretary cold tho. Recovered nicely and stated for the record that it would indeed have been worse had the man died.

Already heard the Red state joke, Good news is that Hillary is going hunting with the VP, Bad News is that Ted Kennedy is driving.

I know a little bit about that from a former life, albeit in the days of the MX missle.

These folks are carefully screened for security, not intellect.

Therein may lie a weakness in an "operating procedure"

Kinda reminds of our old "we don't elect'em; just protect'em" t-shirts which disappeared at about the same speed as the Buell 1992 shirts.

Egads. . .

Maybe I'm just not with it, but I'm having a real hard time figuring out why the media and the left side of the isle are in such a flap.
Everyone seems to be apoplectic about not being "notified" for 24 hours.

It was a hunting accident!
Maybe the guys family didn't want it all over the news.
Maybe the land owner (hunting club) didin't want the publicity.
Can you blame them for feeling this way?
I sure can't considering how the press has conducted themselves of late.

Maybe everyone should stop looking for black helicopters all the time.

If this had been just about anyone else, it wouldn't have made it past the local news.

I think it all comes down to the fact that they are angry that they haven't come up with some way to blame GW Bush for it. The closest they can get is that he should have notified them sooner so that they would have more time to asses his role in the "crime". I am still sitting on some pellets from my youger brothers inability to unload a single shot 16 Gauge and yes no. 4 shot does break the skin.

I wonder how many BadWebbers are carrying around some pellets, me and Court for sure; anyone else??

I publicly apologize for saying that only one of us would come back if Cheney and I went hunting. It was in jest.

The secret service already has my number as I sent GW an email a year or so ago offering a swift kick in the nads....

Besides, If Cheney and I went hunting it is quite likely I would be the one not coming back as he would probally shoot me.

Blake did you notice I did not call him ignorant?

This apology was forced upon me BTW. I made no threat in that post. I never said I am going to shoot Cheney. But I know who Blake voted for! Personaly I think it sad that blake is comfy throwing insults yet thinks my comment worthy of suspension. Power corrupts.

Sky,

This is just me, but you don't seem to be making any headway on this thread.

As for getting shot by the VP; wouldn't that be a helluva story to tell your grandkids? I would write a book. "Vice President Cheney: The Dick Who Shot Me"
